Hello, I'm new to the forums. I went to local PD and submitted app for LTC. I was just wondering what everyone does during the 8 week wait. I'm thinking of maybe some extensive home project or maybe trying to sleep alot.

OUCH 15 weeks you must have been out of your mind. Is there a waiting period in MA when you go to the gun shop and make a purchase or can you take the gun home right away?

I picked up a couple of magazines (Read Periodicals) from my local newsstand like guns annual, etc., that review virtually every firearm in current production. I then wore out the binding on them over the course of eleven weeks reading and rereading reviews and compiling a wish list. My list was cut in half shortly there after when I discovered the issues surrounding Mass. compliance.

Only in half??? Must not have been a very long list. My list was reduced by 95% to 98%, I'd guess.

Not a lot of pistols on it at the start, since then a ton of things have failed to even make the list keeping it much shorter than it could be. Good for the wallet bad for the range.

Get your projects done now, cause you won't have $$ afterward!!

FWIW: waits vary from a couple of weeks to >100days. Mine was 100 exactly.

You know, one thing you guys waiting for licenses could do is pick up a decent air pistol.

I didn't have time to go to the range yesterday so I broke out my air pistol to do some practice in the backyard. In the winter I'll shoot it in the basement. I have a Gammo Compact. It is very good for building basic skills like sight alignment, trigger pull, etc. There are others less expensive that cycle like semi-auto, but I can't speak to those.

And, with an air pistol, you don't have to worry about Mass compliance!

Only if you go to Wal-Mart.

Which would be another mistake.

Ivanhoe's in Watertown insisted on my LTC (and did an FA-10) on my first air pistol (S&W 79G) back ~1976. [wink] [rolleyes]

Lots of dealers really have no idea about MA gun laws and require all sorts of unnecessary paperwork.

I just got my license back in march. They told me to expect it to take the full six weeks but it came in only 25 days! In the meantime I destroyed many cans, pizza boxes, and other mundane objects with my BB gun and got an airsoft gun to shoot cereal boxes and lampshades inside when it was too cold.

My advice would be to join a sportsman's club now if you don't already have somewhere to shoot because you may have to wait for your membership to go through (veeeery frustrating, to have your first gun and still be shooting your damn airsoft at a milkjug).

Seems like a lot of variability in wait times. I submitted my LTC app on 5/1 and had it my hands on 5/10 - I was shocked to get it so fast based on what I had read in the posts. It all has to do with the LEO submitting it to the state and how long the state sits on it - So I've heard..
