The Virginia Beach handgun shares a deadly feature with assault rifles - The Boston Globe

The recent shooting in Virginia Beach, Va., shows that the most severe gun-related problem facing our society is the proliferation of guns containing a semiautomatic mechanism. The gun used in this incident was a .45-caliber handgun, not an “assault rifle.” The connection between the handgun used and an assault rifle is the incorporation of a semiautomatic mechanism in both. This mechanism automatically ejects spent cartridges and loads new ones. Both styles of weapons accept high-capacity magazines and can handle large-caliber ammunition. While we focus on AR-15 style weapons, literally tens of millions of semiautomatic handguns are sold to the general public. These are the weapons that function exactly the same as the Virginia Beach gun.

Our organization, the Falmouth Gun Safety Coalition, is working to achieve legislation that will ban the semiautomatic mechanism in any gun sold or owned in Massachusetts. These are weapons that were designed for military and law enforcement purposes only and not for the general public. Revolvers, lever-action, pump-action, and bolt-action guns cover the full spectrum of civilian needs, whether they are hunting, personal protection, or home protection. The semiautomatic mechanism for guns has no place in civilian hands.

WOW.
Such ignorance.
The uneducated masses will fall blindly right into the vacuum of this nonsense.
" Designed for military and law enforcement purposes only". We all have seen the " responsible use by law enforcement " videos...
This must be countered with a well written and FACT based response.

Falmouth Gun Buyback Day 2018
A coalition of local social organizations, businesses, and communities of faith has formed to support a voluntary gun buyback in Falmouth on June 9 from 9am until noon. With the help of the Falmouth Police, the Coalition will accept guns in exchange for food gift cards at the Falmouth Police Station located at 750 Main St. Guns will be destroyed. The reasons for buybacks are well known and they have been successful in many parts of our state. The goal of Falmouth Gun Buyback is to remove unwanted, possibly improperly stored guns from homes. We are inviting businesses, individuals and other organizations to become a part of the coalition. We are now also accepting checks for financial support. email: [email protected]

So were the flintlock musket, the revolver, the lever action... all designed for military use.

I can't copy text for some reason. Take a quick read at this horse shit he wrote about the buy back and not letting expensive or historical guns be turned in. He was a FFL at one time for his hobby, but screw you. He is personally going to oversee the destruction, as a blacksmith.

The next thing they'll be saying is that revolvers are loaded automatically as one pulls the trigger and that they must be banned because they are auto loading.

The only connection between those guns and killings is the deranged person behind it who doesn’t know right from wrong.

Yes, revolvers are also fully semi-automatic.

I always keep in mind that Australia included pump shotguns when they confiscated all of the dangerous semi-automatics. And more recently, they have discovered that lever actions shotguns exist, and are trying to close the "loophole."

Eventually, the people who believe that the 2nd amendment only protects muskets will decide that muzzle loaders still have enough shots to be used in suicides, and therefore also need to be banned.
