Another great idea for Our Liberals:
Kremlin aims to unplug Russian internet from World Wide Web | DW | 12.02.2019
The idea of creating a wholly Russian internet is backed by various ministries in charge of security and information. In Tuesday's debate in the Duma, however, some lawmakers expressed concern about the potential expense of the project. Critics have also argued that it would worsen internet service in Russia.

The law's text does not make it clear how unplugging Russia from the global internet would work in practice. The plan could mean that Russian telecom firms would have to provide internet exchange points that can be controlled by the national telecom watchdog, Roskomnadzor. That way the communications regulator could block content and keep traffic between Russian users inside the country, where it cannot be intercepted by international actors.

According to an explanatory note, the project would allow the domestic internet to continue working even when disconnected from non-Russian root servers. That means that the country would be prepared should other countries attempt to cut Russia off from the internet. And the law's authors have been specific about who it aims to counter: They classify the bill as a response to "the aggressive character of the US strategy on national cybersecurity passed in September 2018." The US document explicitly calls Russia out for "reckless cyberattacks" and categorizes the country as one of its "strategic adversaries."

New law. WHATEVER party wins the Presidency, THAT one can run for reelection, but they MUST sit out the election after that. Or if he/she doesn't run for reelection, then they sit THAT one out.

That would leave a Dem OR a Rep running against one or more off brand candidates. It would incentivize them to stand up people with real potential.

It was a "sorry not sorry" 'apology' the the Democrats have perfected. Apologize without actually apologizing.

She still places blame on AIPAC, the National Rifle Association, and the fossil fuel industry. In addition, she was assigned to the House Foreign Affairs Committee that receives classified information and should now be removed based on her anti-semitic positions.

How about just making sure our existing laws are ENFORCED? Only idiots keep inventing new procedures when existing laws are not being enforced or followed. We have many illegal operations in our voting system. Nobody is fixing it. Fix it and liberals will have slim chances!

Maybe Mexico will pay for the wall after all with the $14B that the US seized from El Chapo through legislation that Ted Cruz filed back in April 2017. El Chapo is going to jail for life and has no use for the money. [smile]

    Here they go again:
Parkland Anniversary Highlights Democratic Shift on Guns

Democrats say they're buoyed by their success in last year's midterms. The party won back the House of Representatives, fueled by victories in several competitive, suburban swing districts where candidates highlighted gun control.

Lucy McBath, who became a gun control activist after her 17-year-old son was shot to death at a gas station in 2012, won a suburban Atlanta congressional district that had long been held by the GOP. Jason Crow, a former Army Ranger, ousted the Republican congressman and gun rights supporter who represented the district where the Aurora theater shooting happened outside Denver in 2012. Even in Republican-dominated Texas, backing gun control didn't stop Democrats from flipping a suburban Houston seat to their column.

AP VoteCast, a nationwide survey of the American electorate, found 8 percent of midterm voters across the country called gun policy the top issue facing the nation. They broke for Democrats over Republicans by more than 4 to 1.

"The primary thing that's shifted in the politics of this issue is voter intensity was on their side. It's now on ours,'' said Peter Ambler, executive director of the gun control group founded by former Rep. Gabby Giffords after she was injured in a 2011 mass shooting.

Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, said Tuesday that he would run as a Democrat for Arizona's Senate seat next year, suggesting that gun control won't soon fade from the campaign trail.

Democratic bullishness on guns is reflected by the unanimity in its sprawling presidential field on the issue. Presidential aspirants who once took a more moderate stance and opposed elements of gun control, such as Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Bernie Sanders of Vermont, have now embraced the cause. And the most prominent potential moderates in the Democratic field, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Vice President Joe Biden, are longtime gun control advocates.

But there's no guarantee the Democrats' leftward turn on guns will help them recreate their 2018 victory during the 2020 presidential election, which will take place on different terrain than the diverse, educated suburbs where Democrats performed best in in November. Democrats will have to win more rural, whiter states to defeat Republican Donald Trump in the Electoral College in 2020. Florida will again play a crucial role, and Democrats lost major races there last year despite being the location of the Parkland shooting.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton ran on a platform of unabashed gun control - partly a product of attacking Sanders for his more conservative gun control positions in the Democratic presidential primary. Trump accused her of trying to do away with the Second Amendment and warned she might appoint Supreme Court justices with that goal. Republicans believe that's part of the reason Trump eked out his 2016 win.

"The threat of a Hillary Clinton presidency brought gun owners out of the woodwork in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania,'' said Dave Workman, a longtime gun rights activist at the Second Amendment Foundation in Washington state. Gun owners "may not like everything about Trump, but they sure don't want him replaced by Kamala Harris or Cory Booker,'' Workman added, referring to the California and New Jersey senators running for the Democratic presidential nomination.

So far, Democrats like Booker and Harris routinely allude to problems of gun violence but have not released detailed plans to control it. The candidates may soon find themselves in a bidding war for the Democratic base on the issue, much as they have been tugged left on taxes and universal health care.

"They're going to go too far,'' Brad Todd, a Republican strategist, said.

Still, Democrats think the tide has turned since 2016. Celinda Lake, a Democratic pollster, said Trump was able to win then because many female suburban swing voters didn't believe he would really govern as a conservative president on hot-button issues like guns. Now, she said, they have no illusions.

"The victory for Democrats is going to come from the enthusiasm of women,'' Lake said. "Parkland is a breakthrough moment that we need to take advantage of.''

    Never should have apologized anyway.

AIPAC argues that she was wrong to say they pay politicians to be pro Israel....in an email where they ask for more money to pay politicians. I almost expected this to be from the onion.

"You know, my mom and dad were born and raised out in Oklahoma, and my daddy was in his teens when he fell in love with my mother,” said the Massachusetts Democrat. “She was a beautiful girl who played the piano. And he was head over heels in love with her and wanted to marry her. And his family was bitterly opposed to that because she was part Native American.”

    - from an old news article. They seem to skip over this

If this is how democrats win elections, then why is Trump in the White House? Why is the Senate still controlled by the Rs? Why are the majority of the governors Rs? Why are the majority of state legislatures controlled by the Rs?

No. Psychopat can be very successful and daring. We have sent one on the Moon, by the way. Psychopat can also defend his/her daring deeds in public and make himself/herself believable. The story about confused "Indian" family and mother confusing a silly girl is very appealing to other psychopat because it offers acceptance of lies and it brings compassion into the story. Mother, which is poor and still responsible, is confusing poor girl who does not care about learning anything about her "native heritage"......Very clever story!

Can you imagine Kavanaugh coming up with the same story? His type of people would not dare to run with such skeletons in the closet!

She does not care about any .gov. She actually wants to brake structured .gov because what she cares about is her satisfaction from destruction. This society made her rich. Not enough! She becomes strangely animated when it is her time to grill the victim in front of cameras. She is trembling with the excitement and she performs like nobody else. This is her passion and this is what she loves. Grabbing her grandson like a piece of rag in order to appeal to an average schmo is very telling.

of course with all this border wall talk you notice what's NOT being covered? The Senate committee finding "no evidence of collusion" between Trump and Russia after 2 years of investigating and 200 interviews? How about the "reporting" saying that Mueller will NOT issue a report on his findings and will not speak about the findings. And it does appear to be winding down as lawyers assigned to the investigation have been getting reassigned to other investigations suggesting that the investigation is just about over.

ETA: evidently now House Dems are planning to investigate the same crap
