I used to subscribe to Blade magazine back before I had my LTC and C&R and all I would buy was knives and swords. Blade had a cool section called The Knife You Carry. It was pictures of everyday people with their knives and it was interesting to see the diferent knives folks carried and why they chose them. I remember reading here a while back in a post about what people carry, and some mentioned knives.
Myself, I haven't carried a knife since I got my LTC, but I sometimes do if I'm going out of state or somewhere that I know a firearm isn't welcomed. The knife I carry is an SOG Flash 2. Its a razor sharp, assisted oppening, well crafted and balanced knife that I would rely on in a bad situation.
Before carrying it, I used to carry a Bench Made brand Balisong with Tanto blade until I was informed by a few LEOs that I should leave it at home. Back when I was a teenager and would get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and would get frisked only for the officer to find the butterfly knife in the top pocket of my jacket, I used to catch a lot of flack for carrying it. A few times I had it taken from me but would always fight it and get the knife back eventually. The last time I carried it I was at a beach party that got broken up and I wound up teaching the officer who found it on me a few diferent oppening maneuvers and chatted with him for a while about Filipino butterfly knives and various US made manufacturers. I think carrying a butterfly knife in Mass these is ilegal. Unfortunately the knife laws here are so vague its hard to tell what is and isn't ok.
Sorry to drift off topic, but what about the rest of you? What knife do you carry?

Balisong is a really gray area in MA, if I remember correctly it is NOT illegal, but most LEO's think it is. This is from people on Bladeforum.com anyway.

I also leave the balisongs at home, usually carry a swisstool and/or the titanium "Big Dog" by CRKT. It fits my hand well.

Kershaw Vapor, 3" & not assisted opening.
I had a Kershaw Wirlwind, assisted opening, but it was just too large for my pocket.
I have a lifetime interest in pocket knives.
It was customary, where I was raised, for a boy to get his first pocket knife and his first full sized bicycle, at age 8. I have not been without a pocket knife a day in the half century since, except for infrequent airline flights and jury duty. I'd likely forget and leave the house without my pants some days, except that's where I carry my pocket knife.
I have a small collection of folders that I have bought over the years, including an original Balisong. I buy a new one about once a year, if I find something interesting and not too expensive. My "holy grail" is a Gerber Paul buckle knife. I couldn't afford one when they were widely available, and still can't because of their collector prices.[crying]

spyderco endura rides in my pocket anytime im awake.dont leave home without it.also carry a smaller spyderco for toher purposes.would carry concealed but my job prohibts me from doing so.might freak out a customer or two if they saw a firearm on my persons.a knife is the next best thing for me.

I currently carry the Kershaw Black Scallion.

And I really like it, assisted opening.

Before that, I pretty much only carried Buck knives.

Like jhrosier, I've been carrying a pocket knife since I was a kid. And I've never go anywhere without one. If I fly, it goes in my Dob kit and checked so I have it when I land.

But, I carry it more for opening boxes, cutting string, cleaning my fingernails...not really for protection. But it doesn't mean that I wouldn't if I had to.

Anyone who has taken Michael DeBethencourt's classs knows what he recommends - and he knows about knife fights:

A Spyderco Delica with a pink handle

What! Are you kidding me?!!! Nope. Absolutely true. His philosophy is that you can do what you need to do with a small sharp knife, if you have the training.

And when you end up in court (and you will), you don't want the prosecutor holding up the high-speed, low-drag, black tactical, serrated edge, Rambo knife and waving it around at the jury.

You want him holding up a cute, little pink pocket knife.....

S&W full size SWAT with 1/2 serrated edge. Not 'cause it's "swat" or whatever, but because the thing is solid. You can pound nails with it. Also, it's very easy to tear down, clean well, and reassemble. Only thing is, it doesn't keep an edge for all that long (that's why I use a spyderco ceramic sharpening kit). Always clipped to my dominant side hip pocket...

And 95% of people never notice it. Including people that I work with every day. That's why I'm sure when/if I can upgrade my restricted LTC-A that I won't have to worry about "printing"... nobody notices anyways, and around here, "gun" is the furthest thing from most peoples minds.

Edit to add:

<--- It's in the picture right there.

This is my first black knife. My other Buck that I carry is Purple.

A SOG Twitch II; it's just a little bitty thing, but easy to stick in my pocket and has a blade lock, just in the case a wee little on happens upon it :-) It's also quite sharp. Plus it's a colored matched 'accessory' to my Kahr K40 - my wife always tells me it's important to match your accessories :-)

It's funny, when I was younger I didn't worry much about needing any of these things, but then again I knew I could out run just about anybody.....today, I wouldn't want to bet my skin on it!

I had an Endura until I broke the tip in a parking meter trying to get a stuck quarter back out. Then they changed it and I didn't like the new ones as much. I had an Al Mar SERE2000 for a few days, but didn't like the way it opened, and really wanted a Benchmade Axis lock. I now have a Benchmade AFCK with hole opener and Axis lock.

I dont need much in a knife, just enough for opening the mail or making pointy sticks whilst I'm sitting in the backyard. I have a little Gerber monoframe in black.

The only thing I don't like about the Gerber is the black finish is wearing off on the blade.

For formal occasions I have this little Damascus folder from Bear & Sons.

This one was a present from Mrs. Twigg. I save it for "Formal" occasions because it's too pretty to use everyday.
Neither is large enough to cause anybody concern and I keep 'em both nice & sharp.

I have carried a knife every day of my life since I got my Knife & Axe merit badge in Cub Scouts and my father bought me a pocketknife.

Current residents in my pocket are a Kershaw Leek (used to be a Scallion until my wife bought me the Leek for Christmas) and a Case "Hobo Trapper". The trapper has a knife blade and a fork and separates into two pieces.

Some day I'll have to line up all my knives and take pictures of them all... it'll take a while since I have quite a few. [smile]

Currently, a CRKT Bwana & an SOG power plier.

But the one I've carried the longest was (& still is) a Buck Folder 110; from 1/74 through the mid 90's. Finally got to the point that it was becoming more of a filleting knife. Since then, I've tried the SOG Airweight, the CRKT M16, a balisong, and a few boot knives before adopting the Bwana.

I couldn't get my hands on any pink ones, but I have Spyderco Delica & Endura. Usually also carry an old Buck folder, more of a workhorse than defensive knife.

I carry a Kershaw Chive everyday. I removed the plastic lock. it got in the way.
Best little switch.. er, assisted opening knife I own.

That would be a production here, too.

Before guns, cutlery was my main hobby. I collected Case mini coke bottle knives exclusively and bought every one I saw while missing out on only one, the mother of pearl model. SMKW was my main source for Case knives. I loved buying from them because of the rare collectable knives that would pop up with the "found in storage" header near the description.
I've often thought of bring a bunch to one of the gun/knife shows in hopes of getting good $$$ for them since I have original boxes and packing for all of them, but can't bring myself to part with any no matter how much extra gun money I'd like.

I, too, used Smokey Mountain Knife Works for my Case Hobo Trappers - I have one and I've bought several for my Masonic Brothers. They made a Masonic trapper that was just great. Unfortunately, it seems that Case no longer makes them. [frown] If I'd known that they were going to discontinue them, I'd have stocked up.

When we were down in Orlando a couple of years back visiting my son and his family, I discovered that condo we were renting was literally right next door to Randall. My wife had everything she could do to hold me back. [wink]

Benchmade Osborne 940, Modified Tanto, Axis Lock, all black. The finest pocket knife I have ever owned, but after 5 years, it is not holding an edge like it used to. I have sent it to Benchmade for the free sharpening and "tune-up", but it's just not the same. For the $ now you can not beat Spyderco. I have been carrying an all stainless Delica with partial serrated blade lately. It will take over for the soon to be retired Benchmade.

Chris

Has anyone handled the new Leatherman Knives yet?
