The financial results of Chicago denying Constitutional rights.

I hope Mr. Gura buys himself something nice with it.

He will, I am sure. But keep in mind (and this is directed generally and not to you), there are a lot of expenses behind these awards. These are not like hitting the lottery. These are like collections on unpaid invoices remunerating work already done.

* For context, check out the posts on cal guns. According to them, apparently Alan is buying a veyron... [thinking]

Yes. I was thinking SIG X5, not BMW X5.

True, and that work was done without a guarantee of payment.

BUT... the title of this thread is potentially misleading.

The document demonstrates that attorney Gura has submitted his bill - it is not a court order compelling Chicago to pay that amount. I expect that the amount of this bill will still be subject to review and approval by the court, and that more time may be spent justifying that number of hours billed.

Nope, it's a done deal. They have a court order.
It's important to note, that these recoveries help facilitate future litigation. 1988 recovery is a hugely important part of keeping this machine going.

I know the paying of the legal fees is a done deal. Generally, the losing side is ordered to pay, the winning side submits a bill, the losing side then submits a motion asking the court to reduce the fees, and there is one final negotiation. I hope, however, that you are right.

1988 recovery is a hugely important part of keeping this machine going.

Amen to that brother. Consider it the legal equivalent of a perpetual motion machine.

I liked this line from the Calguns thread about Gura.
400k is chump change for all that work. There should be an iPhone app tied to his wallet, so that every time he tries to pull it out to pay for dinner or a bar tab, some local gun owner gets an alert, so they can slap his hand and get it for him.

What does the City of Chicago care about this bill? The "city" will pay the bill and none of the politicians or bureaucrats who created or enforced the overturned rule will care. Until there is a way to pursue action against individual public employees and elected officials, they will just continue to create barriers to the exercise of human rights.

Yup!

This. All that will happen is the last surviving businesses in Chicago will get strongarmed, sorry "tax increased", to pay the bill. The idiots that cause this sort of stuff end up still sitting at the trough, shoveling in all that they can eat. "I was just following orders" should end up like it did in Nuremburg for some in government....

You're right but by "financial results", I was referring to the way Chicago has effectively wasted tax payer's money by firing to trample on their rights. I wasn't referring to any sort of windfall for Gura and co.

I'm sure that a large number of police, firefighters and teachers will have ot be laid off to cover this bill.

It's a sad, sad, day when one person, who thinks that their rights "matter" in the scheme of things, can affect the lives of all the children so heinously.

It's pure selfishness on the part of the orignal complainant.

...wonder how long THAT will take to get into the Chicago papers...
