...is in the slow cooker. It's killing me! And a hot bread out of the bread machine will top it off!

you guys got my wheels spinning. I asked Patrick to pick up carrots, onion and celery on the way home from work. I'm going to use a can of vegetarian gravy and a few cups of water to make a "meaty" broth. Already have potatoes and bisquick here.

I'm making some vegetarian "stew" with dumplings for dinner...

Hope it turns out well, never tried making a gravy broth before. But it sounds like it may work.

Here's the one I use but I add a package of Baby Bella mushrooms and more pot & carrots,

2 lbs. stew meat in 1" cubes
1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. beef broth
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic or chopped onion
1 bay leaf
1 tsp. paprika
4 sliced carrots
3 diced potatoes
1 stalk celery, diced

Put meat in crock pot. Mix flour, salt and pepper and add to meat and stir to coat meat. Add remaining ingredients and stir to mix. Cover and cook on Low for 10 to 12 hours or on High for 4 to 6 hours. Stir well before serving.

JonJ,

That's the same basic recipe I use with a few small additions. I use pepper in addition to salt to coat the meat before cooking. I also throw a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of red wine in the mixture. I also use about 3 pounds of meat to make a meatier supper.

Sounds real good. I use 2 onions and minced garlic and then I add garlic powder to season the meat.
BTW: it's done and we're waiting for "mom" to get home from work so we can eat it!

No! No Stew. Please for the love of all that is good and rightous, no stew.

*twitches*

All I had for a week straight was Beef Stew. Damn good beef stew mind you, but I had my fill.

[lol] [lol] [lol]

The first event that we went to this year was in PA at Neshaminy State Park. There were 4 of us from my unit that went. One of the guys made corn bread, and the other one's mom made a HUGE batch of corn bread. We caravaned down in two cars and everytime we stopped for the potty or gas, we'd get more corn bread from them. We ate corn bread Friday night, Saturday day, Saturday night with (you guessed it) beef stew that I made, and Sunday morning. We started back about noonish on Sunday and stopped in Fishkill, NY (yes, there really is a town called Fishkill) for supper at a Cracker Barrrell. After the waitress took our order, she said, "I'll bring you a big basket of biscuts and corn bread. We all, in unison, yelled, "No corn bread!" I think it took our Sgt. (the one who's mom made a batch) a month before he could even talk about corn bread.

I made "beef" stew last night. It came out great. Patrick was really impressed with it. Since he's a new vegetarian it's fnu to impress him with my ability to make "meat" dishes.

Well the stew and warm bread was great last night. Have some leftover for lunches too. For lunch today though, I opted for the left over shrimp scampi I made the night beofre.

wow a REAL Hot Pocket? That's fine dining- you know in Beverly Hills they call those things "Haute" Pockets. They're like the Armani of frozen foods... [wink]

since the rain stoped I'm gonna fire up the grill and have some hamburgers and a nice salad!

And since I've had the day off, I'll still be in my PJs when I do it!

Any ideas of some spices I could throw into the beef to spice them up a little?

I don't have any powdered ranch....I was thinking some Old Bay and maybe some minced garlic.
