Four Seasons opened at 8 AM; I got there at 9:15 and it was MOBBED. However, I was telling someone about NortheastShooters and Adam_MA overheard me and introduced himself. :D

Picked up my Mod 66 - took about 15-20 minutes to get waited on and about 20 minutes to get the state forms done. Like I said, it was MOBBED. Wall to wall people.

Then I went over to OfficeMax and picked up a new printer, using the $15 off coupon they'd mailed me 3 weeks ago. Saved about $23 overall. :-)

Ummmm

Well. I DID go to Four Seasons today, but it was just to visit Holly and Carl. I was at the MRA from 8am to 3pm taking a shotgun course.

Man I have the hugest bruise on my shoulder, but it was FUN :D

So far I have totally wasted this tax free weekend. I didn't plan ahead and don't have much spare cash

Oh... forgot to mention. I did pick up my 1858 New Model Army, too.

I boycotted the .gov day of tax free on certain things.More bullshit of Romney trying to tell me what I can and can't buy on a tax free day.Why was there tax on gas ?

I went to Riley's and got 500 rounds of tax free XM193 for $90.00.Then I went to Market Basket and got my tax free smokes and tax free beer.I call it my bi-monthly BATF run to NH.

SR, I was at Four Seasons probably ~2:30 til ~4PM. My Wife was the one sitting on the floor reading a book! :(

There were probably 3 or 4 couples in the shop along with a large number of guys. I didn't see any guns that floated my boat, Carl had sold out on two models that I had wanted to look at. I bought a lot of ammo and West Coast plated bullets for reloading .40 & .45 (had to use the hand-cart to get it all out to the car in one trip). I probably should have bought more primers as well, but forgot about it until I saw boxes of them at Collector's.

From Four Seasons, we back-tracked to Collector's (they were staying open later than Carl). I bought some Gold Dot .40 and .45 defensive ammo there. Got to look at the two handguns that I had wanted to check out. Neither appealed to me as a better solution than what I already own. We looked at the Lady Smith 9mm and that might be the next step for my Wife. She also liked the hammerless lightweight S&W revolvers (but we're told that the recoil can be nasty due to the light weight), so I'll first let her try my Colt Det. Special that's been collecting dust for years to see if she likes revolvers. At ~4:15 there were maybe 8 people in the shop, not terribly busy. Decent selection of used handguns.

I had some business to take care of in Attleboro, so I stopped in at AFS int he late morning. GPK was on his day off, so he was on the phone (squawky-talkie) with Don. We have a confirmation that the carbine shoot on 8/28 is a "go". Hopefully, GPK will post a lot more here about what's happening that day. The shelves are still pretty bare there. There were a couple of people in the shop, not busy.

The rest of the day was taken up doing personal shopping.

If I include our new oil burner ($2500), I saved ~$150 in sales tax today!

Len-

You would have noticed me. I'm the one that Carl calls Holly to come out and see and then I hide in the corner with Holly for a half hour. I think you know my fiance so you'd have noticed him, too. I guess we missed each other, but I was there at about 3:30. Didn't buy anything just talked to Carl about how Holly's surgery is healing and then left. Wasn't there too terribly long.

Oh well, maybe next time!

SR, maybe we were there at the same time!

Holly came out and by the register (where they process the LTCs/NICS) someone was talking with Carl about the head scar healing up. I asked Carl if Holly had surgery and he told me to look at the left front leg/chest and that Holly had some tumors removed. I noticed that Holly seemed a lot more "chipper" today than the last few times I saw her. There were a few people talking with Carl and fawning over Holly there. I didn't recognize anyone.

The place was packed and I was kind of focused on my mission of what to pick up.

I have no idea who your fiancée would be. The only person I know in the Somerville area is Jon (from MAF) and I think he lives in Arlington IIRC (probably not too close). Please PM me if you want to give me a clue who you are talking about.

Probably because it would be impractical to reset the pumps to not charge tax for one weekend... and because our wonderful state government is trying to make you think you're getting something for nothing so you're vote them back in next time they're up for re-election.

Ross, don't make me laugh. They seem to have no problem resetting the pumps to reflect a 6-cent increase on a daily basis! [evil]

[Sorry, don't mean to pick on you, but I couldn't let that comment go by, not with the ridiculous daily increases and totally obscene profits the oil companies are raking in by raping us!]

Len, my wife keeps telling me that I'm too quick to assume the best in people... think I'd learn.

I suppose I was thinking that the software that runs the pumps has to have something that reports the amount of taxes that need to be paid for X many gallons sold. That's what I was thinking would have to be reset.

BTW... I stopped believing anything the oil companies said when everytime the price of crude went up, the price of refined gas went up the same day... and I don't know how long it takes to refine a barrel of crude, but I'll bet anything you care to name that the gas I buy today at the inflated price was purchased at least 1 month ago or more, at lower prices.

Ross

Ross, you are right.

And you notice that if the price of crude drops $1/barrel, the price of gas at the pumps never goes down the same day . . . we're lucky if it drops by 1-cent within a week!

Yes, they are profiteering on these "floats" and my understanding is that they buy "contracts" at a fixed price for a set number of day/weeks/months so they don't pay the spot price for a while.

When it is all over, the Feds will spend millions of taxpayer dollars to investigate if any gouging went on . . . they will conclude "yes" and fine the companies some token money and the public gets double screwed . . . we got ripped off and the Feds rip us off again by wasting our tax dollars to investigate but not compensate the general public who was ripped off!

OK, enough OT!

Back on-topic:

- After working out at our health club this AM, we met C-pher and he bought the 1500 rds of nickel .357 R-P brass that I had. We had a nice chat and I look forward to seeing him again on the line at one of the group shoots that hopefully we'll all go to in the near future.

- Then SWMBO decided that we didn't take adequate advantage of the tax-free weekend and we went shopping for a new dinette set and saved another $25 in sales tax!

- I think all these savings are going to make me sick when I see next month's charge card bills! We'll be draining our savings accounts to pay all these bills no doubt!

Yes, I did get to meet Len. And Len, thank you again for taking the time out to sort the brass. I really do appreciate it.

And we talked for about an hour and a half I believe. And I could have talked a hour more. I also look forward to getting together again sometime.

As for what I bought today.

I went and picked up my sunglasses from LensCrafters. Turns out that it didn't matter because there isn't tax on Glasses anyway.

Oh well. It got my butt out to get a new pair now that my script for my lenses changed.

I went to a small gun shop in Marlborough determined to buy a Smith Model 27 if they had one. Fortunately for my bank account, they didn't have one. I compensated by buying a new refrigerator and cooktop with my wife today at Lowes.

Well,
As you have probably already read.. I did make it to four Seasons on Sat, and had the chance to meet Ross. Had a nice chat and got the see the piece he was picking up. I saw a used 642 on the web site, but it was gone before I got there. They did have one with the laser grips, but it was more than I was willing to pay. So I grabbed a bunch of ammo, and a bullet puller (glad I did) and went home to find the brass that I won on ebay was waiting for me on my steps, so... down the the basement I went!!!

I did make it to Wally World later in the day, and picked up a few things I needed, then to the liquor store to stock up on my dwindling supply of various liquors...

All in all, a pretty good day.

Ross: Pleasure meeting you, I'm sure our paths will cross again.

The wife worked and I did all the running around. We bought all the big ticket items we need for the baby like Crib mattress, Stroller, Changing table, etc.

Also used this to replace our home phones with a battery backup cordless system (so they work if the power is out.)

Did a Home Depot run for some things we needed as well.

Thought I was going to be SMART. USed Bust Buy's web site to pre-order the phone we wanted so I could save time and just have to pick it up. WRONG. The process took over 3 hours. Had to make several calls because once the order is placed, any problems need to be done via phone. THEN, you need to wait for an e-mail confirmation to be sure the store you want to pick up the product at has it. Well, maybe it was because Best Buy was busy and the employees found it easier to just punch items as "out of stock" than actually doing their job, but after 3 hours of playing the game on the phone and computer, I canceled the order, nipped down to the local Best Buy (only retailer that had what we wanted unfortunately) and lo and behold was able to buy it off the shelf in about 20 minutes total time.

Rest of my errands took less than 3 hours total.

The Mill Stores was about 5 minutes as I knew exactly what I wanted. And they had a good system to get stuff loaded up fast. Great job there.

Baby Place was about 10 minutes. Again, they were set up to move fast.

REI was a little longer as the stroller needed to be special ordered. But not bad at all.

Home depot was the worse as my one special order needed to be taken to the service desk for the Tax credit. Along with 20,000 fellow Massachusetts residents who were placing special orders. One couple had the woman in line while the husband kept running up with another special order sheet. They were completely redoing their kitchen, had done all the research before the wekend, and now were ordering all the cabinets, applianced, etc.

And then when I was all done, I picked up my wife and took her out to a nice dinner.

Sunday I spent with my parents helping them select a new digital camera. I'm worried now. They claim the camera is to take pictures of their grandchild when it arrives. But did they really need TWO 1gb memory cards? (^_^)

After a weekend of running around, it's actually nice to be able to relax at the office again. (^_^)

Chris, is this your first baby? Mine was two not too long ago. I could almost use another hard drive just to keep the pictures. [shock]

Geez, hearing you guys make Glenn's and my weekend uneventful. [wink]

Oh, mine wasn't "uneventful". Father's 80th Birthday party, and my scumbag brother shows up. Wanting to make ammends apparently. Fat chance.

ETA - No just how many bought guns down in Mass this weekend?

Ah, Don't you love family get togethers. Reasons why I live 3000 miles away from mine, and yes Glenn's family is always entertaining. Keep telling him between mine and his we'd have a movie of the week,or the next best seller! [twisted]
