How's the town to live in?

I remember when I lived in Worcester in the early 2000s I thought Hudson was a dump but it seems to be going through a renaissance of sorts - the downtown area is really nice these days. As there's more and more commercial development maybe taxes will go down. Schools appear to be average - not great but not any worse than Marlborough (charter school aside) or Framingham. Pain in the neck to head east from Hudson. As far as guns go, it appears green and has a small club. Anything else I need to know?

    There's a roller rink there.

There used to be a biker bar.

Creeping gentrification is moving in, so property values will likely rise.

Cabela's is there, so you can get good info about the Mass Gun Laws. [rofl]

General rule of thumb, taxes never go down.

A lot of Hudson is still exactly what you remember, the downtown is nice though, but that's about it.

The nice neighborhoods are still nice, and the closer you get to Main St,the more it starts to deteriorate until you get to downtown.

Of your choices with Framingham and Marlborough I would definitely live in Hudson as long as it was away from downtown and all the triple decker's.

    I live here in Hudson.

Small Town feel, friendly folks, good selection of restaurants, getting east from here isn't that bad, can take 495 to the Pike, Rte 9, or Rte 2, or 62 to 2 or Main Street to 20 to 95.

The police are actually decent folks, most live in the town, and I know quite a few of them as our daughters went through school together.

The only significant negative I can think of is the prevalence of small town politics. There is always some townie a-hole railing against plastic bags, or people getting bent out of shape about the addition someone did on their home. The current cause of the month is water contamination from a company that does precision coatings for medical devices. The company is near one of the town wells and there is PFAS (perfluorooctanoic acid, used in the making of Teflon) in water samples, below the EPA threshold, but people are still bent out of shape about it because they want the threshold to be lower like some European countries.

I really, and I mean REALLY, hope that you meant "planes", because I have zero desire to get my hands on any clergy members.

I live about 1700 feet from Medusa Brewing Company near downtown, just off Broad Street. Happen to live near some of these triple deckers you talk about, and most of them near me are actually rather nice, well maintained, and a good spot for folks starting out on their own.

Some are S-holes, but most are not.

Huge Portuguese population around me, and they, for the most part, take pride in their homes.

I have lived here since 2001, raised a family here (for the most part) and really do think Hudson is an often overlooked town in the Metrowest region.

My wife worked in Newton and commuted from Hudson. Just had to time it correctly!

I am in and out of Boston a few days a week. What kills me is the ride home. If I don't leave by 2:30, the Pike is a clusterfluff.

Even at mid day, it is a long way from Boston to Hudson and no easy way to get there.

I grew up near there and had the general impression the cops could be jerks, however that's old info from my angry 20's, so perhaps it was all in my head.

The town is nice enough. Retail shops are handy and there's plenty of light industry in the area (IE it seems economically healthy). If you don't like Cabela's, there are 20 or 30 FFLs 15 minutes drive north. Definitely a nicer "feel" than Marlboro or the Ham.

I live in Marlborough (on the Berlin/Hudson line) and get into the Hudson downtown frequently. Great restaurants and bars downtown (Horseshoe, Medusa's, Railtrail, etc.) and the actual rail-trail path that runs through Hudson and Marlborough is a great place to ride a bike or walk/jog with the dog. Close to 495/290, Cabelas, Market Basket (a nice Market Basket), Solomon Pond mall for the ladies, etc. Great area in my opinion.

MIL lives in a 55 and older community, downtown seems nice enough. We have thought about it, money goes farther than in Framingham. The traffic can be a nightmare though, MIL commutes to Waltham.

More like a wonderful local brewery run by folks that care about the community, care about great beer, and genuinely just want to make the world a better place.
