Thanks man, I did figure that was the case. Once approved I could then actually build the SBR. The videos I had all watched said you file the report with what you PLAN to build, then once approved bam you buy the parts and build it.

Living in MA, I'm used to submitting the fingerprints and all that anyway. So I don't mind that I'll have to submit passport photos, and fingerprints. I'll live haha.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but with regard to constructive possession, the only thing that makes your rifle an SBR is the barrel, so you can begin sourcing all other parts immediately once you know what you want, just not the barrel. And that's if you're even worried about the minuscule chance you'd get jammed up on that kind of charge...

flame away if covered, but lets say i fill out and get approved a 10" 300BLK SBR. Can you swap uppers that are SB as well (eg- 556 or 458 socom) as long as you still have the original 300BLK upper. As long as you have the original configuration, can you swap out?

i believe the ATF requests notification of permanent changes. I dont believe its a requirement.

QUESTION TO ATF

Hi

I have a AR 15 registered SBR can I change the barrel to a different caliber like 300 black out or 9mm or does it have to stay what is on the original 5320.1

A lawyer gave me a form
Additional-Configurations form and said to fill that out and fax it with a copy of my 5320.1 and I will be all set just wanted to make sure.

Thank you
PAT

ANSWER FROM ATF

You can write a letter to the NFA Branch explaining all the additional configurations. Thanks
