Target Sports Mystery Box

I just got my email, we'll see what arrives. Doubtful I'll renew but that's six of months away

I got an ammo can, a lanyard, a sticker and some safety glasses...no patch, no ammo, no bottle opener (or whatever it was others got), pretty much a bunch of useless stuff...

Who else signed up for Target Sports Prime and didn't receive free ammo as promised? I got a lanyard, chinesium safety glasses and a bottle opener. I'm done with these lying a**h***s.

I got the same plus an ammo can and a neck gaiter, when I opened the box and saw the ammo can I was hoping for some 22 ammo (maybe 50 rounds, since it was not that heavy). A waste of money on their part in my opinion.

Definitely not renewing this year. The $100 is better spent in gas driving to Cabela’s once a week to try and score something, vs hoping I can grab a $30 box TSUSA no-name ammo.

Didn’t really bother me that it had no ammo in it. Just can’t see renewing at the moment because there just isn’t much available. And when it does come available and you get the text or email, it’s gone before you even get the notification. It has definitely paid for itself just buying a couple cases of ammo. And I signed up when they were offering the $50 gift card with the Prime Membership. Man I miss the days of $159 cases of 9mm!

I’m still in. I’m not doing it for the free gift box. that was just a nice bonus. I’ve apparently saved over $2k since June 2020 with the Prime membership. At this point i’m just happy to get the free ammo can. Some people say I have a problem. I like to call them neatly packed solutions.

You’ve likely saved more along the lines of $50. The “savings” take into account shipping, which you would have otherwise avoided if you had just gone next door and bought the ammo locally. The only real “savings” is the 5% discount they give, which is sometimes still more expensive than lgs.

You’re such a wet blanket. Truth on the shipping charges being factored in though. taking out the excess shipping and looking at only the discount with the ~8% they gave off their standard pricing. I saved at least $6-700 for my $95. I bought probably just as much in ammo and firearms from my lgs but they were never cheaper when I looked. I gave them the business to help support them.

I will probably not renew when I am up in September. I have not bought any ammo since renewing last Sept, so it doesn't make any sense. I can't see myself paying these prices for any ammo anytime soon, so it's a waste. I have been a member for about 3 years I think and prior to this I have found it was well worth it. But if I can't get ammo if I want it, and probably wouldn't pay these prices anyway, then it's a total waste. Will wait until it's close to being up and make the decision then, but if nothing changes, I can't imagine I would renew.

You’re saying you bought $20,000 worth of ammo in 2020?

if you're buying bulk anyhow, shipping IS free.

what else did your membership get you???
You mean aside from the price discount, free shipping on non-bulk items I've ordered, availability window of items prior to non-members, all the time/gas not wasted going to LGS searching depleted shelves, and lastly an ammo can containing goofy shit I probably have no use for?

Not much I guess.

Fair, but I find it pretty funny someone spending $15-20,000 a year on ammo is worried about an 8% discount.
Well the more you spend the more that 8% is worth. If I was spending that much, it would be worth more to me than it is with me spending nothing last year.

Oh, oh, oh! Sign me up!!!

LOL, sorry guys. Not the best situation. I don't buy often enough to justify their prime. Once in a blue moon I'll buy a case of Norma .223 match mostly for the brass- the first shot is a bonus.

Are you kidding? even at 15k which is light. that’s still $1200. how many people here would not choose to save $1200 when spending $15k+. are you saying you’ll voluntarily spend more than you need to? I never said I was worried about the discount, I do enjoy it. And I do use it when they had what I wanted at a reasonable price. I also bought from midway, SGammo, Sportsman’s guide plus a couple other online outfits if the prices were better or they had what I wanted. lgs purchases were ammo and firearms. but short answer is yes I did spend that much on this lifestyle during 2020 and i’m glad I did when I look at 2021 and the future.

When you buy at that level that becomes a big deal. You know what $600 is? Another case of ammo. [laugh]

Funny, I got an email today saying I need to renew my Membership and they'll send my mystery can. I haven't renewed because I really don't need any Ammo. Well, I can always use more Ammo, but not at the current market prices. Overall, I've been pleased with my TS experience. They ship to Mass, and even without my Prime Membership, prices are usually very good.

(Not that we're TS customers, but ...)
I'd been thinking that problem was gonna manifest for TS in these hard times -
perfectly satisfied customers who aren't going to renew for now
because they have no demand for the ammo itself at current retail/current supply.

The best customer is the existing customer -
just like the best place to lose your car keys
is under the streetlight.

If either the reliable flow of repeat business
-or-
the subscription fee itself
is a crucial part of TS's business plan and budget,
then they're gonna have to work harder
to keep the subscription plan afloat:
  • Make on-time renewal cheaper than just re-joining a few seasons from now,
  • or give subscribers some kind of priority access to inventory,
  • or don't start the one-year countdown timer until the first order,
  • ...
I'm not fishing for moar freebies here -
I'm jus' sayin'.

Note that the last idea is a form of liability on the corporate books,
just like a restaurant that's sold a gift certificate, and is now on the hook
to cook $n00 worth of food "for free" in the future - even though the
gift certificate revenue has long ago been spent.

In TS's business, it could be a deadly liability -
for all they know, Biden* could mandate that all ammo shipments
be escorted by unionized armed guards.

Imagine how much that would impact a "free shipping" subscription plan.

Previously, TS was a great option for a wider selection. Local gun stores usually have bulk FMJ, and a smattering of JHP, and that’s it. And the free shipping on small orders was really great when you want to just try a box to see how your gun likes it.

But I can’t see renewing my membership until they get reasonable stock again. Every time an “in stock” alert comes up I see the price and immediately close it.
