Get Your Brunch Popcorn: Tappan Zee Bridge Will Be Blown Up This Weekend
new one looks like a giant zakim bridge....
should be the GW
It is a concrete cable-stayed bridge, which is becoming a more common design for large bridges. The cable-stayed design can be used in many sites where a traditional suspension would not be feasible.
It's been a long time since I've gone over the Z. Nice bridge. IIRC, it was never really paved well. Reminded me of the old "lower-deck" and that whole area because of it. Handy to avoid NYC, but not a smooth ride.
The new Tappan Zee is better.
I'm picturing Chuck Schumer standing on it when it goes kablooey....ahhhh good times....
Platzen Sie die Tappan Zee
Each and every time I've ever gone over the Tappen Zee, I've seen some sort of accident. A couple we were almost involved in. Finally said "Screw this!" and stopped using that route. Will be happy to see it go.
That bridge was garbage - a good introduction to what to expect in NYC.
Drove over that thing every weekend for years. Might have to watch the demo livestream
Rode over the Tappan Zee most recently two years ago on my bike on a ride south. Friends told me the bridge surface was so bad you can see water below you through the holes in the pavement. I didn’t see any of that but the road condition was third-world grade especially considering what a major route it is. But it was pretty cool seeing the new bridge under construction alongside.
Maybe we could get him and Nancy to do a ribbon cutting for the demolition.
Tell him it’s a anti trump rally
I can see it now......Blow up the old and take out the new. Oops.
Most of the old bridge was torn down when we went to N.j for Christmas. I will still refer to the new bridge as the Tap.
now delayed high wind prediction
Came over the new bridge last week, named after a POS governor....
I never had a problem with the Tappan Zee, always fond memories of the family packed into the 1968 Country Squire wagon, towing the Shasta 18SC, headed for April vacation... either in Washington DC ( Greenbelt Campground NPS) or Myrtle Beach SC ( Lakewood Family Campground)
At the time taking propane thru NYC was a no no
Controlled demolition of old Tappan Zee Bridge delayed
The controlled demolition of the old Tappan Zee Bridge that was scheduled for Saturday has been delayed.
Tappan Zee Constructors said the demolition of the bridge's east anchor span was postponed due to inclement weather, saying sustained winds delayed the preparatory work needed for the operation.
No rescheduling date has been set.
The new bridge has been named after the governors father.
The new name is Assface McBrownhole?
As long as no fish are harmed during the demolition-----------Jack.
I wonder how much NY paid for the environmental impact study before the bridge could be removed ???
Millions, I'm sure.
study results: "The Hudson is full of lead and PCBs already, so just drop the lead painted bridge into the water....you will not notice the difference"
Doesn't NY have laws against public obscenity?
Separate names with a comma.
