Looking for a tacticool bolt action for bench shooting. Would like to get one in .223 (already have a Ruger Precision for 308).

My thoughts:

For chassis either this one

or this one

https://mdttac.com/tac21-chassis-system.html

Tac21 is 20 MOA while ModX is 0 MOA - since I am not going to be shooting much past 200 I probably should go with 0 MOA?

For muzzle brake something like this

What do you think?

I think we need some idea of purpose, budget, and range in order to really address the question at hand.

Purpose - bench shooting.
Budget - under 2000
Range - realistically 200 yards.

What do you think?

Well since you are asking, skip the chassis and the muzzle device. Buy a Vortex scope and learn to shoot it. If you want to make it look cool, mask off the important parts and spray paint it.

There, I just saved you like a grand. [wink] Once you are out shooting your equipment consistently, then look at a chassis/new rifle.

For price, shooting .223, accuracy, and tacticool, it's hard to beat a good AR15. If you must have a bolt then go your way, but an AR with a match barrel and good trigger will take you a long way.

If you want accuracy from the .223 cartridge it is hard to beat a White Oak upper in price for performance, modularity, and resale.

As Moderator wrote, throw a Geissele NM in that lower and that's what I shoot out to 1,000 yards with 90 grain hand loads.

Why in the name of the sweet baby Jesus would you throw 3 extra pounds, at the cost of $700+, onto a .223 bolt action?

It'd be more tacticool to keep the stock stock, and invest your savings into glass or ammo.

Is there a price on those yet? I thought they were supposed to be all over SHOT but I must subscribe to the wrong channels.

I follow them on IG, have since I found out who was behind it and that they were in Portsmouth. They are gonna be some where around 2500 I think.

Yeah I thought about it but I hate being a beta tester and I'm still trying to decide if the guy is another Mark LaRue or not.

Wow, The Fix is very very tempting. However, I think I will wait for them to work the bugs out. Also, no .223

Kinda like with Ruger Precision Rifle - bought it when it came out and while I like it, there are a few annoying things about it they fixed in only a few months.

What you describe doesn't fit "bench" shooting as I think bench shooting is. I assume your looking for best accuracy. Something tells that chassis system is more tacticool than practical.
I have been searching for a new bolt gun for some time and I keep coming back to Tikka. I'm drawn to this one.

Bench guns are supposed to be heavy[grin]

Main reason is to have a project I can tinker with in my free time. [grin]

If you want to tinker, slap together an AR15 upper around a WOA barrel like others have said. Then you can play with things like comps, adjustable gas blocks, and buffer weight trying get the softest shooting scooped gun you can while still having something useful off the bench too. 200 yards is a layup, and a .223 bolt gun is kind of a waste considering what the AR15 can do.

1500 bucks deep into a model 700? no thanks, i'll pass [grin]

Without a custom smith bedding and lapping the bbl to boot.

Ed, I don't get Q's insistence that the market needs a 6 lb bench rest bolt gun. It clearly isn't a hunting rifle so why the insistence on light weight? Don't get me wrong, it looks sick and should be a tack driver but perhaps I'm missing something?
