T&G POLL

Voted. Here was my comment on the poll.

Limiting magazine sizes is ineffective. It won't change the amount or type of violent crime, but it will cause unnecessary inconvenience and cost for law abiding citizens. Some data points below:

* Most shootings are done with fewer bullets than even the lowest magazine limit in the country (New York, 7 rounds)

* Someone with even basic gun handling skills can change a magazine in less than 2 seconds, and proficient shooters can do it in less than a second. Limiting magazine sizes will not materially change the "rate of fire" for people set on firing a large number of bullets.

* There is ample historical evidence that the intent of the 2nd Amendment was to enable the individual to defend against the tyranny of foreign or domestic governments. As such, the individual must be able to carry weaponry equivalent to that used by the average soldier. Until we figure out a way to limit all the world's militaries to 7 rounds per mag, we should not limit the armed populace in this way.

Let's focus some of this legislative energy on actually solving the problem of violence in the country, rather than playing partisan political games.
