Has anyone put a synthetic stock on their M1A and had problems inserting magazines?

Well, I did. Put one on my M1A Scout Squad and apparently neglected to insure that I could still insert a magazine. Took it off and put the wood stock back on and while the fit was tight, magazines did insert.

Is it just a matter of sanding or filing down the sides of the channel along the magazine well?

I have both a wooden and a synthetic stock. I have noticed it's much, much easier to insert a mag with the wooden stock.

i wonder what the failure rate was on the M14 for parts interchangeability test 4.4.3.5?

I picked up an m1a off a fellow NES'r few years ago with a synthetic stock. Had the same issue where it was VERY difficult inserting a magazine. called Springfield and they took care of it free of charge.
