Swiss tell EU: Hands off veterans' assault rifles

Fascinating article: https://www.yahoo.com/news/swiss-tell-eu-hands-off-veterans-assault-rifles-131929622.html

Interesting how few choose to take home rifles. I wonder why. Might have been a work of journalism if that were investigated, wouldn't want that nasty reputation.

[FONT=&amp]In 2015, 11 percent of the 20,600 soldiers who left the Swiss Army opted to keep their assault rifles which upon departure are modified to fire single shots.

[FONT=&amp]That's probably why.

You'd bring that POS home and be pissed every time you'd look at it.

So if Switzerland is attacked, there's a guy running around with a bucket of giggle switches passing them out? Would make sense to keep the rifles as they trained. There's obviously no problem with gun crime in Switzerland.

I was thinking that was poor working by clueless writer and it meant semi auto.

Perhaps a good portion of the veterans are not "gun people." Swiss folk have compulsory service - a lot of people may do their time and then be done with it.

IIRC, keeping your (modified) issue arm is not as simple as tossing it in the closet. There are restrictions, scroll down a bit:

The old adage of "Only the Swiss are fully armed, fully free" is not as true as it once was. There's been peace for 70 years. It's been a lot longer than that since anyone has come a-knockin' on the Swiss' door. The perceived need is less than it was.

A few years ago, when there was a push in Swiss-land for asshat gun controls, I sent a more or less blind email to ProTELL, wishing them luck. One of the people wrote back, and said that he was an NRA (here!) member, so that he'd have some place to go when the Swiss .gov went FR.

Just as many people have the wrong ideas about US gun ownership, so do we, of others.
