Swiss support for gun ownership faces crucial test

As the eu becomes more tyrannical, countries will start to fight back and it will fall apart. With the power being in Brussels, your vote doesn't mean anything anymore. It's symbolic.

The EU and its genesis is/was nothing more or less than a continuation of the same stupidity that Karl Marx and the Germans have been trying to foist on the rest of the world for in excess of a century and a half now........

Seriously....look at how tyrannical the "Government" of the EU is wrt the individual in any of its member or partner states (the Swiss issue is a perfect example of this)........people that live in EU nations have absolutely zero input or recourse wrt their countries rep to the EU or the so called legislation/rules (aka dictates) that Brussels decides to impose on member countries and their populations.

The EU is nothing more than tyranny masquerading in the form of good government.......

We’re fellow travelers in overall opinion of the EU[1], but I do need to point out some things you’ve omitted ...

The EU has a government and no quotation marks are required.

a) There is a European Parliament with members directly elected by the citizens from each member nation (for example, the UK is in the embarrassing position of running elections to the European Parliament in the midst of the current sh*tshow that is brexit. Bwahahahaha).

b) There is a European Council, which consists of the heads of government from each member state. It acts, essentially as the chief executive for the EU and sets overall policy

c) there is the Council of the EU (not the same as “b”) which is the equivalent of the US cabinet (mostly...) and negotiates the treaties and formulates the laws that enact the European Council’s policy goals

The situation is rather analogous to the US: federal vs. state. There’s the same tension between different member nations (“states”) having differing local agendas and between legislators and Eurocrats (“regulators”).

[1] Hell, I’m still pisssed off that Switzerland joined the damned UN ...

Hungary placed their fence along the Serbian and Croatian borders. Croatia is part of the EU, but not part of the free travel Schengen zone. Serbia is part of neither.

Apparently the refugees were also flooding in thru countries like Serbia and Croatia. Once they're in Hungary - they're in the Schengen area and can move into other European countries. Which the way I see it: just goes to highlight the insanity of the European Union.......... Hungary puts up a border fence along it's border with two countries that are NOT in the EU - to keep refugees from coming in. What happens? Other EU countries get pissed at them. Or more precisely: the rat politicians from other EU countries get pissed at them.

It's things like that - that highlight exactly how little the politicians running those countries and the EU actually care for the people who live there - or more precisely the NATIVE people who live there.

The same happens to the Swiss. The border guarding is limited despite them Not belonging to the EU. They maintain their own currency which has remained strong, likely due to the strong banking they have. You will see some enforcement on the train and when you land their but it’s selective. Like in monaco where the border is shared with Italy ( totally overrun with homeless immigrants) once you try to cross into Monaco via rail or road, the border patrol will grab you based on profiling and send your ass back where you came from.

Another one bites the dust:

Swiss Voters Opt to Tighten Gun Laws in Measure That Tested Nation's Shooting Traditions

Sound familiar ?

"Ahead of the vote, most of Switzerland’s major political parties — except for the populist Swiss People’s Party — favored the measure, with support strongest among Socialists and Greens.
The rift on the issue has fallen along a rural-urban divide, with city dwellers more inclined to back the EU directive."

ALL OF WHICH LIVE WITH COUNTRY MOUSE - to survive.

Be just like liberals when there is a law they don't like they just pretend it doesn't exist and ignore it. What's the EU going to do invade Switzerland for some handguns?
They all have real assault rifles at home... I think they keep them as part of their reserve duties, until age 55 I think.

I'm a big believer is clear, concise and minimally stated expressions of whatever little thing I may wish to communicate to others.

So, rather than the overly complex and easily misunderstood SWEXIT, perhaps we should take into consideration the much briefer version:

SEXIT

I think it has great potential for pubic relations and advertising. I mean public.

From José Niño at Mises.
Why the Swiss Voted for More Gun Control
The European Firearms Directive
According to Claudio Grass, a frequent contributor at Mises based in Switzerland, and Dimitrios Papadopoulos, an officer in the Swiss militia, 80 percent of shooters in Switzerland use semi-automatic weapons, which will effectively be prohibited under this new directive. The only way people can acquire the newly prohibited weapons is through an exemption where the prospective gun owner declares himself to be a sports marksman. The only proof that he needs to provide is that he was shooting at least five times within a five-year timespan. Whether this exception will be maintained in the future is unknown, as the EU announced further restrictions and the Swiss law will have to adopt these, too, according to the Schengen treaty.

The Militia Origins of Switzerland’s Gun Culture
Switzerland has a militia tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. Unlike other European countries during the period, Swiss cantons did not have nobility systems. Thus, defense and security were provided by villages and citizens themselves. One caveat to note is that military service is compulsory in Switzerland for healthy Swiss male citizens.

Servicemen in Switzerland receive a SIG550 assault rifle or a SIG P220 pistol and are required to keep their firearms at home as long as they are enlisted. After serving, veterans can keep these weapons, however, the automatic and burst-fire functions of the SIG550 must be disabled. Military service in Switzerland is inextricably tied to marksmanship, with servicemen having to go to the shooting range once a year to demonstrate their shooting chops. The SIG550 and SIG510 are the preferred rifles of choice for shooting sports and also for civilians in Switzerland. However, under the new EU Directive, the SIG550 and SIG510 have been reclassified as “prohibited” weapons even though the Swiss government issues about 20,000 of these weapons to recruits every year.

After reading more about it, it seems the real mistake Switzerland made was to enter into the 1985 Schengen Agreement. If I were a Swiss citizen I would be doing my best now to educate my fellow citizens about the underlying role that agreement is playing in usurping Swiss Sovereignty. As they say, hindsight is always 20/20.

I thought that every ex-military person in Switzerland had a machine gun in their house or something like that, some type of firearm. Maybe big changes ahead for them, I hope not!
