Suppressors ????

Supressors

Supressors are not legal in MA unless you are a "licensed manufacturer". I am less than 100% certain, but I believe that there is a $500 SOT (Special Occupational Tax) due to the feds each year to maintain an NFA licensed manufacturer status (I know there is for full auto manufacturer).

As Rob said, suppressors are definitely not legal in MA. Off the top of my head, there's only one place around here that has them, even though they are not available for purchase in MA. Believe me, if they were available, I'd have a few...I'd have on immediately one my SOCOM. [lol]

Better check real carefully! BATFE came out with a ruling recently (read it but can't cite it) that ANY suppressor that the BATFE CLAIMS will work on a real gun is ILLEGAL TO POSSESS without paying the tax ($200), doing the form (and in MA would be illegal to possess anyway, so BATFE shouldn't approve the form).

BATFE has been known to string people up on bogus test data to prove their point. If you want to risk having Bubba as your favorite lover for 5 or more years in the "gray bar hotel", know what mess you could be getting into! You have been forewarned!

Pay close attention to what Len is saying. NFA 34 violations are aggressively enforced by the BATFE. If they catch you, you will be in a world of hurt.

just something I saw surfing, nothing I own or anything.

From ATF Rul. 2005-4 :

Held, a device for an unregulated paintball gun, having a permanently
affixed, integral ported barrel and other components, that functions to
reduce the report of the paintball gun is not a “firearm silencer”
or “firearm muffler” as defined, as the device is not one for diminishing
the report of a portable firearm.

Held further, removal of the permanently affixed ported barrel and other
components from a paintball gun is a “making” of a silencer under the
GCA and NFA that requires advance approval from ATF.
