Support your own damn self and leave me the hell alone.

Bankruptcy will not discharge a student loan. Ask me how I know.
That is MY money you borrowed, and I am the one on the hook to pay it back if you go bankrupt. The deal was "we will loan you this money with no credit or collateral but we own a part of you.". Not unlike the mob taking your legs as collateral.

So, here it is. All of it:

Support your own damn self and leave me the hell alone.

I really appreciate the sentiment. I honestly do. But, just a modest, hypothetical question:

Let's say, tomorrow, certain segments of the stock market crashes (just the ones you invested in), and in a wildly improbable fluke, all your personal banks and insurance companies and such go belly up, and you and your spouse and almost all of your relatives die in a fire which consumes your home(s), and your remaining family member - one you are fond of, I'd hesitate to say you love them - let's say one of your children - gets dementia and is homeless and wandering the streets, living on the thoughtful, magnanimous charity of people who act like you say you believe.

After a week or so, do we still have to bury the body after they let him or her starve to death? Or would it be okay if the rest of us resort to cannibalism to take care of most of the clean up?

I ask because I think I'll suggest that there will be some extra salt incoming when I tell you that this idea is also one that an NPC pretending to be a person would express. Your salt will make your child's flesh just pop in the pan.

As I said, I, and the Bible, concur with much of your sentiment - "if you will not work, you shall not eat". If your target is the multi-hundreds of layers of government "employees" and "managers" and "overlords", if your target is the multi-millions of those who demand socialism but only if it includes those who are unwilling to give up their money. (After all, one can just _have_ socialism. They and their 20m favorite people can get together, put all your stuff in a pot, and to each according to their needs. You can literally 3d print your way to a worker's paradise. This sort of thing even works a while, if you're like religious communities, it works for a long time (until you descend into heresy and homosexuality and you have to be suppressed). If you're like the Soviet, it works for about 5 minutes until someone says "I need a gun." (Ok, here's your gun). "Also, I need that cow for milk." (But the other person needs that cow) (tap-rack-bang) "He no longer needs it for milk." .... "Oh, and I also need a pine box to bury your child. Would you be so kind?"

There are many citizens who would gladly take a handout and not work if they could.
I was full time national guard for awhile. I managed a couple dozen DA civilians. I hired a young Woman on as a parts clerk. Lower on the GS level but her yearly salary was about $42k with the full government benefits package. Keep in mind this was starting pay.......it goes up from there. She had been working at Dunkin donuts for min wage as her last job but her training in the guard as a supply clerk qualified her for the full time government job. I figured she'd be extatic.....and she was......for a short time

Anyhoo........she received notice from the state that with her new job she'd be losing her subsidized rent apartment......SO SHE QUIT!!!!!

YEAH......she left a government job most people would die for.......because the freebies from the gubment paid more

I've been telling people that for years now - they keep yelling at me and telling me that we won't have roads and schools if we don't pay our taxes................

Lol. Our roads suck and our schools are over built, just like our police stations and town halls. I have not seen a building spree like this since Diocletian. Hail Caesar!

I have some sympathy for those on assistance trying to go “legit”. The gap between on/off assistance, especially anywhere near Boston, is massive.

I don't have any sympathy. If the system is giving you that much assistance that getting a full time permanent government job paying $42k a year is a bad thing......then system is giving them too much f***ing assistance.

Me personally.......I'd take the hit on assistance to get myself on a track of self being self sufficient. But then again.........I've never taken assistance because I have a spine and a pair of balls and made life work. When I got married I worked 2 jobs to make ends meet.......bought a house that I just paid off. Worked hard got a BS and a master's part time while working full time......got multiple promotions over the years and been married proudly and happily to the same woman for 25 years.

People lack a spine today and expect assistance. I never once considered it ......working 2 jobs was more attractive to me than applying for any assistance. It's called life........again......I have zero sympathy......zero.....nada.....not one ounce.

I'd eat my own leg, before I'd take a government handout...

Another good true story. Many years back getting a haircut in an old school barber shop .....you know.....where MEN go to get their hair cut. Young dude in his mid to late 20s comes in.......sits down......few minutes in and the usual banter between barbers and Parton's starts. Except this young dude is bitching about the cost of day care for his kid and how the government won't help with day care and you know......things are not the same as they were 30 years ago ......married people can't live on just one income! My old barber stopped cutting my hair.......looked at the dude and says well......I've listened to you for about 10 minutes now and I've had enough. We couldn't make it on one income 30 years ago and raise kids.......we just had the balls to work two jobs while our wives raised our children. The kid was silent for about a minute ......got up and walked out.

True story. Genos barber shop Georgetown. If anyone of you know old Geno.......you'll know this story is dead on for him.

I'm good with the "no schools" thing; public schools, that is...and I'm on the local school board! Why should my taxes be used to indoctrinate young minds?

Lol. Our roads suck and our schools are over built, just like our police stations and town halls.
My town appears fond of 7-figure contracts to replace all the windows
in an entire school building. Two story masonry buildings, and to hear the
wailing and gnashing of teeth at Town Meeting, you'd think they were
the freaking Hancock Tower, flinging window panes like giant frisbees
to decapitate entire classes of children waiting to board a bus.

I don't have any sympathy. If the system is giving you that much assistance that getting a full time permanent government job paying $42k a year is a bad thing......then system is giving them too much f***ing assistance.

Michael Tanner of the Cato Institute is responsible for a state by state study that shows a family in New York receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medicaid, food stamps, WIC, public housing, utility assistance and free commodities (like milk and cheese) would have a package of benefits worth $38,004. In Massachusetts the package is worth $50,540. In other words that is how much you have to make to equal the benefits recieved by welfare recepients in the Commonwealth. We will speak with Michael about this study.
