As some of you know one of our members here is having a rough time finacially. Her husband is serving in Iraq, and is trying to do a third tour over there. Seeing how its the holidays and such,I was hoping everyone here would find it in the Christmas spirit to help them out. I know it is hard for alot of us,but even little bits help. It all adds up. Nickle is willing to take pay pal for them at http://www.farnsworthammo.com
It is greatly appreciated. Thanks for helping.

Make sure you go to the contact us link, the e-mail address is my PayPal account address.

Just so there's no confusion, I'm not Ira, he's my father, and that's his phone number at the shop.

I'll be keeping the names of donors discreet, and will be posting amounts raised. Just so it's in the open $200 is already on the way to the individuals, and that was from one donor, who will remain nameless, since he or she (I'm not saying which) wants it that way.

That situation is taken care of. What else would you like to do? Some here on this board help me out with a soldier in my sons unit that is deployed to Iraq right now. He has no family.

Yea, Mrs. WW. Did Alan ever get that brush?

And if you need me too, I can send over a few more. Just let me know. Just give me the name and rank, I'm guessing that it's the same APO.

And don't forget that if you live around the North Attleboro area, to use the USP store off Exit 5 to send items to a person deployed. They package it up and provide the supplies for free. You just pay the postage. It's thier way to support the troops. From asking at other UPS stores, it seems that they are the only ones doing that right now.

It is amazing how easy it is to help!!! other should to. Yesterday I made a post here because the thread was dead asking how I can help!

Mrs. WW quickly responded to me with a PM. I now have a Sgt. in IRAQ to help that has no family over here!! I will be sending the first of many packages next week!! It is Amazing how good I feel right now!! This take very little effort!! I encourage every like my self that sit on the couch and in front of the computer and wants to help, but are going to do it latter!!

Make a post now if you want to help!!! Some nice people here will help you.

sorry for the Soap box speech!!

I would like to thank Mrs.WW for her patriotism and raising great and brave kids are proudly serving this great country!!

Glad to help. Can only say son decided to follow in mom and dads shoes, or shall I say combat boots. Our sorta son decided to follow Alan. He still has AIT to go, but as it stands right now he is due to deploy later this year. We are proud of both boys.

I got this in my e-mail, so if there are others wanting to adopt a servicemember (Marines) here you go also.

Mrs Loud
Thank you for your kind words. Im Sure that your son is doing his best as are all of the service members here doing what we do. There are allot of Marines out here that do not get letters and packages so if you want to write to us I will give you our address.

I just wanted to let you know I got your e-mail. I do appreciate what you are doing, and do not want any servicemember to feel like they are not appreciated. You guys are. I have a son serving in Iraq right now also. He comes from both of his parents having served, so we have an understanding of what you do and what is actually going on over there. Just know you will be in our thoughts and prayers. I am also willing to write to anyone and send care packages also.
Take care and know that there are people that truly do care what is happening and support you guys 100%.
Susanne Loud

Yes, I have adopted another.[grin]

I'm going to put a care package together!!! i will be sending it out monday. If any one has something they want to add let me know. I live in Ayer but will be in fitchburg Ma Friday.

For any that sew I also have a link where you can get in contact, and make clothes that are adaptable for our servicemembers that are wounded and recovering. I signed up. Otherwise they have to wear hospital gowns. This way they can wear regular clothes. They send you the patterns, material, etc.
Here is the link.. check it out.

I just emailed the state coordinator Sue. Thanks for letting me know about them. I can't crank out a lot of them (hands, you know), but I'll definately to what I can to help them.

My mother-in-law is going to help me. She can't do alot of sewing anymore either, but like she said she can sit for short periods of time and do some here and there.
Glad to help.

MrsWW: Do you know of a list anywhere of the sort of things to send in a care package i.e. stuff that will be useful, not too expensive, and light to ship.

For any one interested. Here is a good list of what to send. Yes even beanie babies, but for those that send care packeages to Alan's unit DO NOT Include them. They do not let anyone within a 1000 ft of their convoys, because of what they are transporting. They have no interaction with the kids. Those that adopt other service members they can include them. Here is a good list.

One other thing Alan has told us Don't send X-box or any kind of games. They get stolen right out of the packages going through customs and never make it.
Also at this point I wouldn't bother with Gatorade. Most units have pallets of it at this point.
Do not send chocolate, especially this time of year as I have been told it just melts and turns into vary shapes of chocolate goo. We were able to send around Christmas and Easter, but now the weather is too hot for it.
I am willing to answer any questions also.

Definitely send Hard Candy or Jelly Beans (like Jelly Belly). Real Maple Syrup is a hit as well.

The guys buy DVDs from the locals, they're poor copies, but dirt cheap, so DVDs might not be a good choice. Music CDs might be a hit, though.

Books and magazines are definitely good, and Shotgun News was sending free copies there for the asking. That went over good TF Redleg, when James and Tank went over.

Alan had asked my brother to make BBQ sauce. So that is on it's way over also. Different hot sauces as well. We sent Alan an assortment. Anything to make the food taste better, or MRE's.

I sent over Paul my Teva's. From what I understand, those were a godsend.

I guess regular sandals will get sucked off their feet going to the showers in the sand...and sometimes it's a few hundred yards away.. But they are open enough to wear in the showers as well...

Yeah, Alan had come back from a convoy run to find their shower & porta potties blown up. It's also why he had to replace all of his electronics when he was home.
