Sununu trying his hardest to turn NH Blue

OK, $14.50/hr full time is $30160/yr before taxes (I know, retail jobs aren't full time but bear with me). Zillow shows one apartment for rent in Greenland. One bedroom in what looks like a converted strip mall for $1150 a month with heat not included. Surrounding towns are higher. That $13800/yr for rent would be 46% of the very hypothetical full time income for a single person. Add car, health insurance ($2400 - $6000), and taxes. Not much left for food and clothing. Even with work ethic the value proposition fails.
Min wage is designed for teenagers and retirees who work part time. Millions of Americans have worked their way past minimum wage. Any adult working 40 hours a week at the minimum wage made some poor choices in the past that they are paying for, and yet they still have the opportunity to work their way up.

Actually, someone needs to take him to Lewiston.
Anyplace that's a liberal shithole, Opps I mean high class area [wink] [laugh] should convince him that flooding the area with refugees is not a good idea. He could look at Europe too.

Isnt part of the "losing workforce" issue NH residents leaving to work somewhere else? How is importing refugees going to solve that?
Well, when they come to Manchester, they get an average of $13,000 for "relocation expenses".

Make it two disabled people at $15.50/hr. and $5.29/hr. (Social Security) and $1400 for a 1BR and it's not any better. The problem is the "middle class". If you make just a little too much, you don't qualify for subsidized housing, are stuck paying market rent for handicap-accessible housing.
Lot of people complaining here but precious few willing to show up at the capitol to hearings and encourage reps/sens to vote the right way on legislation.......its always an opportunity to swing by the corner office and politely tell the gov or his admin how you feel about issues in person......

Calling, Writing, Emailing is all good but its no substitute for standing in front of them and looking them in the eye and telling them face to face

Make the effort and show up if you want to make a difference.....rinse and repeat when it comes to supporting candidates for 2020 elections for NH House/Senate and Gov Sununu's reelection campaign.

That's great if you have a job where you can take time off. Most of us "regular Americans" are working to keep a roof over our heads. Email/calling is all we have.

I have been to many of the hearings and even spoken at a few. I am fortunate that I have a 2A friendly boss but it still costs me vacation time to go...a sacrifice I'm willing to make. I have brought friends, some who spoke on the spur of the moment. They didn't originally plan on it but after seeing what they/we were up against, they signed the sheet to get in the speaking queue.

There has to be a better way of alerting people to these hearings. Many folks aren't aware of the implications of what the dems are trying to do. These folks need to be able to get into some kind of pipeline...we aren't getting a lot of help from the NRA of which I was a member until this year. I belong to GOA and NHFC. They do a good job of keeping me informed but not everyone is on board with those folks. Like me, many of these people don't use social media (this is one of the very few I am on, as well as one or two other gun forums and one motorcycle forum). Anonymity is a keyword for many of these people. We tend to be loners.

I belong to a gun club basically so I have a place to shoot but they are, like many other affordable clubs in NH, pretty much run by FUDs. I have brought up the hearings coming in Concord to my club and only one or two "might" show up sporadically. And it's not about having to use vacation time for these folks... at least 80% are retired. They're just FUDs and don't seem to understand the danger. Fortunately, as of late, we have some younger folks joining the club. I hope they won't get discouraged and leave.

One thing I know is that many gun owners tend to fly under the radar...they don't want to draw attention to themselves and for good reason (I tend to fall into that category). With the political climate nowadays, and the eventual potential for red flag laws, even in NH, no one wants to be seen as a gun nut.

This, jesus christ the only time I ever made minimum wage was when I was doing yard work for some stupid old c*** that wouldn't pay more than minimum wage. After I replaced her with another customer that was the end of that.

Even when I worked afterschool in the 10th grade I made over a dollar an hour more than the prevailing minimum wage at the time.

Also yes he's been good holding the line against gun control but if the state gets flooded with refugees and they get to vote that probably won't last.
This is the key right here. Yes, the governor has doen a good job regarding 2A, but hes not going to be here forever and long term importing refugees will result in less public support not only for 2A but for the Bill of Rights in general. Ive seen and heard it with my own eyes and ears.

I grew up in and still work in a MA dump city that has been majority minority for decades now. Ive worked with guys from China, Bosnia, Cambodia and all over Latin America who lived through literal horror shows in their respective countries. Cambodian guy had more relatives dead than alive. They are all either "only the police/army should have guns" or at the most a shotgun for hunting rabbits or whatever and thats it for civilian gun ownership. They would all vote to repeal the BoR in a heartbeat. Its almost like they see Western governments as a kind old uncle who would never do anything to hurt them. Why shouldnt the police be able to stop people and ask for id? Why shouldnt they be able to stop someone and search through their car? Someone says something they dont like? They should be arrested. Good hearted people, legitimately hard working to the extreme, good moral character, but zero understanding of what it means to live in a truly free country. Their vote counts just as much as mine and they tend to have many more kids than the average white American.

So yeah, Sununu is doing the right thing now as far as the 2A goes, but long term he's tying a noose around NH's neck. Immigration, legal or illegal, will be the death of the Bill of Rights eventually. Call me whatever you like. Im watching it happen in real time.

No one expects a minimum wage job to be a career; it's a career-starter. People in min wage jobs have roommates, share expenses, live at home while building up savings, etc. It's like saying they can't afford to buy new cars or houses. Two people in that job (roommates) are now bringing $60K before taxes (which are almost nil based on bracket). My daughter is a law school grad, working on the Hill, and she still has a roommate to share expenses.
It ain’t about min wage, it’s about asking for Refugees who we all know will vote Democrap and therefore against 2a, not a jump to conclusions imop. Things like if a county is purple now and you dump a bunch of these future socialist ito that county, bingo solid blue. And what’s with this take care of your State BS, immature ?

I read the EO, one part of it
The Federal Government consults with State and local governments not only to identify the best environments for refugees, but also to be respectful of those communities that may not be able to accommodate refugee resettlement. State and local governments are best positioned to know the resources and capacities they may or may not have available to devote to sustainable resettlement, which maximizes the likelihood refugees placed in the area will become self-sufficient and free from long-term dependence on public assistance. Some States and localities, however, have viewed existing consultation as insufficient, and there is a need for closer coordination and a more clearly defined role for State and local governments in the refugee resettlement process. My Administration seeks to enhance these consultations.

It seems to me that it's more about having a seat at the table that makes the decisions. The EO allows the Fed to place refugies in non-cooperating states, these states would have no direct involvement in the decision. But in those states that do agree, the Fed has to work with them to determine what, if any, immigration settlement is sustainable.

Think of it this way, if they want to send refugees to NH they have to work with the state and local communities to determine if it is a good idea.

But for those states that don't sign on, the decision is purely the Fed's. So a non-participating state, with a Governor who hates Trump, gets those 100,000 refugees. And they don't have to even talk about it.

This post was in response to a specific comment about how the $14.50/hr job offerings at Target could not serve as a living wage in the area. Try to keep up.

I have no idea what your situation is

The number of people that cant take one or even two half days over the course of a YEAR to show up in concord are few and far between

You think its bad now?

Wait until the donks control the entire state gov.......the only way that happens is if people are apathetic

An ounce of prevention vs pound of cure....take your pick

Its a matter of priorities more than anything for the overwhelming majority of people
This is The Problem. Not only do the Donks cheat, they can harvest the "power" (such that it is) of layabouts, while regular working people need to concern themselves with, um, working.

My very first post said the Governor is cooperating with the feds to bring future Democrats to NH, nothing about how pro or anti gun he is, maybe you need help with understanding and accepting this ?

Dude! Are you on meds? You immediately said "And we should trust him to hold the line on gun laws?" That's the post that people responded to. Somehow, you decided that his refugee action equated to him not holding the line on gun laws. I sure as shit didn't throw that turd into the punch bowl. Now you're backpedaling. Fine.

This is one of those cases where we'll have to agree to agree that you're in the wrong.

Strawman argument. I did the math on why Target can't get help at about double the minimum wage.

or a room mate,,,,, like the old days....

It would have to be someone you like to share a 1 bedroom ...

Looks like there are currently 18 GOP Governors requesting their state gets refugees.
Read the EO.
It's not a request for refugees. It's a seat at the table to make the decision. It even states that it's to determine whether or not, and if so to what extent, to send refugees. It means the state will be involved in the decision process.

Those not part of the program will just be told they are taking X number of refugees and where they will be going. This is politics, who do you think is going to get the short-end? Those that support the president's EO and are involved in the process. Or those that refuse to be part of the discussion and have no say or recourse when it comes to refugees?

Maybe someone should point out the jobs picking up feces off the streets in San Fran and LA, the crime, the homeless crisis and the destruction of the middle class and ask him if that's what he wants for NH.
Already happening in Manchester. Have you ever been to Veterans Memorial Park downtown?

No I'm not in NH although I do vacation there most every year. It's sad to hear that it's happening there but I don't think it's anywhere near the extent that it is in CA. Take Sununu there and point that out to him. He should be aware but maybe he's not.

Not much to explain, IMHO Manchester and Derry are pits, Salem NH is just North Lawrence ( the fine young urbanite that got shot in Lawrence the other night was a resident of Salem)

I know life long Manchester residents that are now living in fear due to the crime in their neighborhood.

As the Massification of NH continues, the problems are moving north too.

"We" have enough problems without importing more.
