Hi,

I'm looking for suggestions for a rest that I could use, when testing the accuracy of loads that I develop for pistols. I've tried resting my arms on a sandbag, but being a relatively new shooter, I'm not that confident that any inaccuracies aren't due to my trigger control/grip and not the load.

Any suggestions?

Your not going to get away from your trigger finger or grip influence shy of anything but a mechanical mount.
I found a few sand bags positioned to support my for arms to work well.

yes, i'd agree also.

I use the hoppes set up below (not my actual rig but same thing). not really set up for a pistol but at this stage not going to buy anything else. I rest the butt of the pistol on the rear rest. to counter the issue mac1911 brought up, I found a plush doggie? play toy at pet smart, 12' long and a couple inches high. I put it under my forearm for support. seems to work so far.

Ransom Rest looks nice, but well over what I want to spend. good to know though.

I'm hoping to minimize the human factor, as much as possible.
I found on Amazon the Caldwell Pistolero: Amazon product ASIN B000VJS4ASView: https://www.amazon.com/Caldwell-Pistolero-Handgun-Shooting-Rest/dp/B000VJS4AS
They also had a rifle rest that they say would work for pistols: Amazon product ASIN B0028M9ZBIView: https://www.amazon.com/MTM-FRR-30-Front-Rifle-Rest/dp/B0028M9ZBI
There was another, for sighting in, which sounds like it could be used as a rest (without clamping), and then used for sighting in too: Amazon product ASIN B0007LOX8CView: https://www.amazon.com/1003626-Hyskore-Parallax-Pistol-Sighting/dp/B0007LOX8C
I'd likely be using it with a 5" .45 and 4" 9mm pistol.

Any thoughts on these items?

my friend, if you think 27 bucks is too much you may as well go back to your sand bag. buy the piece of equipment you want, you'll have it forever to use.

if you celebrate one of those holidays where you receive gifts, and we just had 2 go by, you could have dropped a hint and found one under the tree or menorah. whichever... just sayin'.
