Sub2000, anybody got one? Reliability over time?

Anyone own and a fan of Keltec's foldy plastic fantastic? Either gen 1 2 or 3? Gen 3s have the twist mount but for gen 2, how do you guys mount an optic on it so it still folds? Midwest? MCARBO?

Looks like an amazing little backpack carbine to deploy in a rooftop Korean situation. Or if Rittenhouse wanted to infiltrate a leftist riot he could have had this hidden in a backpack vs an AR slung and paint himself a target.

I have a Gen 1. Never had an issue of any kind. No optics on Mine
Can confirm. Gen 1 has an absolutely awful trigger, but it's very reliable, even with those cheap ETS mags.

Idk how 9mm feels in them, but the .40 is brutal to shoot.

To the OP, if you want the lightest, smallest PCC, the Sub2k is it, but there are better PCC's out there that are much more fun to shoot.

You’re better off popping off a takedown pin on an AR9 and folding it back if portability is the goal. Kel-Tecs suck balls never buy one even the KSG despite it being in COD and seeming like a good idea. It is one of the few exceptions to the golden COD rule.

As a lefty, I would not buy one. I don't own one but have shot a friend's enough to have an opinion. If you are a lefty, you better have glasses on. I always ended up with burned powder on my face. As mentioned before, the trigger for me was not very smooth either.

I have a Gen 2 - it's a lot of fun to shoot, but you'll want some aftermarket parts. I have a dot on an offset mount that doesn't require me to take any extra steps to deploy the optic when folding/unfolding the rifle. I put mine together just before they announced the Gen 3 (I was not happy when that announcement came out). I see no reason to get anything other than the Gen 3 if you think you'll ever want to use a red dot. The solutions for Gen 1/2 for optics are just not viable since you have to deal with wonky setups to flip the sight around or unscrew stuff. If you are okay with an offset dot then the Gen 2 will be fine, but definitely avoid the first generation. It's not like price is a big factor here, anyway.

Also, I have the multi-mag version for interchangeability with a variety of pistols in my collection - Beretta, S&W 3rd Gens, M&P, etc. That is a nice feature not available in other platforms. This is just a fun gun, but it does make for a decent truck gun when paired with a compatible pistol and a bag full of mags that work in both. It's light, compact, cheap, pretty durable, fun to plink with, and you probably don't need to buy a bunch of new mags for it if you already have plenty for the pistol.

I kinda like how the gen 2 already has backup irons and with the Midwest MLOK ball bearing rotating sight mount, you could stow the carbine folded with the red dot in line with it for a flatter profile as opposed to gen 3 where it juts out at 90 degrees. If the sight ever fails you could just swing it out of the way and peep thru the irons. One thing I'm wondering is if they've made any reliability or trigger upgrades worth jumping to gen 3 over the 2 besides the big draw of the twisty forend which actually doesn't interest me all that much.

I have a gen 2, and anyone who is saying that it isn't reliable is 100% wrong. Keltec has a bad rap because people don't like bulky plastic, messy welds, or screws, but many of their guns are really well built and the sub2k is one of them. it's a straight blowback gun; it is really hard to mess up that formula.

When I got my sub2k my friends made fun of me. I told them that we should see how long it took to melt, so everyone pitched in some ammo and mags, and we set out to see.

We had a total of 2k rounds, around 20 mags and two people loading while I shot. I paused and checked chamber temp with a laser thermometer every 250 rounds, but otherwise firing was uninterrupted. About 45 minutes in, when we got to 1500 rounds, my trigger finger had had enough (it doesn't have the best trigger), so I swapped with one of the folks loading mags. He fired a mag, reloaded, went to charge it, and pulled the handguard off.

When he charged it he held the forend with his left hand and operated the charging handle with this right, putting all of the stress of charging onto the handguard. I had been holding the pistol grip with my right hand and charging it with my left, so it must have gone past its glass transition temp at some point before the 1500 round mark. It never melted, it looked perfect and was solid enough to handle and pass around before he tried charging it. Chamber temps were around 300 degrees, and the plastic trunnion was about 500 the whole time. They obviously made the trunnion out of a thermoset plastic, but the rest of it out of thermoform. I inspected it and fired a few more magazines. Next range trip I fired a few hundred more rounds to finish the 2000. Not a single malfunction (unless you count ripping the handguard off).

I bought it as a meme gun, but ended up being blown out of the water by the amount of abuse it took. I don't know if there is a legitimate use for a sub2k for defense, but I would not be worried about it failing if it was all I had.

I have a gen 2 that is fine. Reliability is fine. Accuracy out to 100 yards is surprisingly good. Trigger is mushy and bad, but not terribly heavy. Portability is unparalleled. And it looks better than the Smith and Wesson fugly cousin.

I wanted a PCC in 40 and the KelTec fit the bill. I bought mine when they were offering a 100 rebate so the price was pretty good. It takes
Glock magazines which are cheap and plentiful with tons of prebans to be had. I don't fold mine as I have a red dot on it.

Fun range toy. Crap trigger. I shot a 4 stage steel challenge with it and it ran 100%. Easy to disassemble and excellent customer
support. I don't pretend its anything more than a fun shooter.

It's a fun gun to mess around with and its better than stowing away a basic handgun in the vehicle for a far away from home apocalyptic situation that may arise but I wouldn't consider it a good option for a fighting carbine.

Cheaper than rifle rounds to bang around at the range with but like most PCC's it's more of a novelty item in my opinion

I have one uses 9mm Glock mags.
-plastic
-little awkward to shoot
+mags are available
+no reliability issues so far
+cheap ($400) when I bought it

there are obviously better PCC’s but for the price/fun ratio just go get one and report back

ETA- I have the version that takes Beretta mags. Preban Beretta standard cap mags are plentiful…even in this state. I bought it because I reckoned that, paired with my Beretta 92, the Keltec would make an excellent bugout bag combo. I still think this after about 6 years of ownership with the Keltec. Mine has run 100%. Even with my light target hand loads. I’m the world’s biggest trigger diva when I’m on the bench trying to get sub moa groups. This is not the long gun for that. It is a gun that I can ring the steel at 100 consistently offhand. It’s a gun that doesn’t add much weight to my pack. And it’s a (bigger than 22) gun that I can put in the hands of a young or novice shooter, and not scare them with noise or recoil.

PCCs are extremely gay with very few exceptions. This isn't one of them.

Wait. Not gay or not an exception?

I had/have one. I sorta left it wet once. Dumbass move. I never even knew it got wet. It got wet. We're talking a year of sitting around. Don't ask.

Gen 1. Optics??? I could keep it on an 8" plate with that huge front sight no problem. I was shocked at the accuracy of it versus anything else I shoot. It was like I was WILLING the bullets to go there.

FWIW - I don't own a PCC, but when the Supreme's blow up most of the current mASS law, I'm betting a ar-platform PCC for sure. Home defense. Maybe even pistol-braced pistol at that point. What's that CMMG one? The Bootychomper or something.

Eww. Unless a truck gun…

So many better options…
And Even at that with Kel-Tec I’d get a SU-16 Charlie .556 for a truck gun before a sub-2000. The Charlie shoots while folded and fits in a ukulele bag.

ETA: My older son has had a Sub-2000 for a long time it does run well I just find it looks cool, and I thought it would be fun but it is not great ergonomically. It would be good in some situations for a hiker or camper maybe.
