This made me think of Worcester.

Isn't that in Rochester? Kind of a long drive.

I have to learn to read the whole thread before typing...

Worst string of whining I've ever seen on NES.
    1. New York State Museum. Free; fantastic stuff on the Adirondacks, contains a somber 9/11 exhibit, good gem/mineral display. It's a vision of what the Empire State was and should be.
    2. USS Slater (DE-766). Haven't been yet, but that's my fault. But you have? Trip report...
    3. Howe Caverns.
    4. Fort Ticonderoga. (Like @Glockster30 said). I haven't been there since 1966, but later in life my father commented that he was permanently gobsmacked by the flintlock collection.
    5. If you go to the Baseball Hall of Fame (never been through it, but I found it very moving to see the final results of the World Series posted out front)...
    6. ...connive to dine at Brook's House of B-B-Q in Oneonta.
    I'm sure there's more good stuff in-town,
and also good out-of-town stuff that's closer,
but those are all good things.

We enjoyed the original El Mariachi when it was on Washington Av., but the high density of wig emporia down the street made me wonder how sketchy the neighborhood was late at night.

I forgot about Howe Caverns and the Hall of Fame. I did 3, 4, and 5, all in one trip in the late 90's. All 3 places were well worth it. Howe Caverns was simply amazing.

Sincerely glad I wasn't overselling the caverns.

Back when cars had real bumpers
and bumper stickers were cardboard or sheet metal with holes in the corners,
my grandfather had a side job in the parking lot:
When you emerged from the tour,
your car had been rigged with a sticker.
(Bailing wire or twine, I don't know).

When you think about it, better to invest chump change on signs
so that a fleet of tourists were advertising your attraction,
than to try and sell them a sticker in the gift shop.
And since they were not sticky paper,
pretty much no one was P.O.ed that their car had been placarded,
because you could take them off without messing up the car finish.

I'm like, "huh, I'm not a local - wonder if I can find the real name of the bar".
    Invoke Google.
    OH Bar.
    Click on Google description.
    OH.
But a reviewer says free popcorn. So it's got that going for it. Which is nice.

If I was going to be there I'd go to Samurai Japanese Restaurant on Wolf Rd, which is technically in Colonie, not Albany.

Yea, whole lot of nothing happening up there. If I didnt know better I would think the city was preparing for a hurricane with all the places covered in plywood. Did find the Irish bar my last night though

For a good time in Albany, head north 'til you find Rt. 2, then take it east for anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. You'll find all sorts of great places to eat and hang out.
