Striker Fired 1911?

This pistol will suffer from what every "improvement" on the 1911 has - exclusion from the open design common parts market. Your S&W or Para Power extractor break? One choice. Your 1911 extractor break? Dozens. Ditto for a Guncrafter "Hoss" part. Now imagine if this new company goes out of business - no new parts. If a new 1911 company folds and you have one ... no problem.

Ah. I see someone has finally defined the term "vantage point." I'd been wondering.

Aside from that, I can't see a damn thing this website contributes to society. Want a 1911? Buy one. Want something striker-fired? Buy one. The market has already answered Hudson's question.

Calling it a 1911 is Sacrilege!!!! I think I just heard Mr. Browning roll over in his grave!
Browning pioneered some brilliant designs. I'd have to imagine that he would like to see people trying to build something new or different.

For myself, I think have new and different designs is great. You'll never get the next great handgun if you just sit around saying "get a Glock or a 1911".

Gospel according to John (Browning)

1 In the beginning was the 1911, and the 1911 was THE pistol, and it was good. And behold the Lord said, "Thou shalt not muck with my disciple John's design for it is good and it workith. For John made the 1911, and lo all of his weapons, from the designs which I, the Lord, gave him upon the mountain."

2 "And shouldst thou muck with it, and hang all manner of foul implements upon it, and profane its internal parts, thou shalt surely have malfunctions, and in the midst of battle thou shalt surely come to harm."

3 And as the ages passed men in their ignorance and arrogance didst forget the word of the Lord and began to profane the 1911. The tribe of the gamesman did place recoil spring guides and extended slide releases upon the 1911 and their metal smiths didst tighten the tolerances and alter parts to their liking, their clearness of mind being clouded by lust.

4 Their artisans did hang all manner of foul implements upon the 1911 and did so alter it that it became impractical to purchase. For lo, the artisans didst charge a great tax upon the purchasers of the 1911 so that the lowly field worker could not afford one. And the profaning of the internal parts didst render it unworkable when the dust of the land fell upon it, and these profaners didst try and fit more rounds of ammunition into the magazines than the holy number of seven, appointed for the .45.

5 And lo, they didst install adjustable sights, which are an abomination unto the Lord. For they doth break and lose their zero when thou dost need true aim. And those who have done so will be slain in great numbers by their enemies in the great battle. a

6 And it came to pass that the Lord didst see the abomination wrought by man and didst cause, as he had warned, fearful malfunctions to come upon the abominations and upon the artisans who thought they could do no wrong.

7 Seeing the malfunctions and the confusion of men, the lord of the underworld did see an opportunity to further ensnare man and didst bring forth pistols made of plastic, whose form was such that they looked and felt like a brick, yet the eyes of man being clouded, they were consumed by the plastic pistol and did buy vast quantities of them.

8 And being a deceitful spirit, the lord of the underworld did make these plastic pistols unamenable to the artisans of earth and they were unable to muck much with the design, and lo these pistols did appear to function.

9 And the evil one also brought forth pistols in which the trigger didst both cock and fire them and which require a "dingus" to make them appear safe.

10 But man being stupid did not understand these new pistols and didst proceed to shoot themselves with the plastic pistol and with the trigger cocking pistols for lo their manual of arms required great intelligence which man had long since forsaken. Yet man continue to gloat over these new pistols blaming evil forces for the negligent discharges which they themselves had committed.

11 And when man had been totally ensnared with the plastic pistol, the lord of the underworld didst cause a plague of the terrible Ka-Boom to descend upon man and the plastic pistols delivered their retribution upon men. And there was a great wailing and gnashing of teeth in the land.

12 Then seeing that the eyes of man were slowly being opened and that man was truly sorrowful for his sinful misdeeds, the Lord did send his messengers in the form of artisans who did hear and obey the teachings of the prophet and who didst restore the profaned 1911s to their proper configuration, and lo, to the amazement of men they didst begin to work as the Lord had intended.

13 And the men of the land didst drive out the charlatans and profaners from the land, and there was joy and peace in the land, except for the evil sprits which tried occasionally to prey on the men and women of the land and who were sent to the place of eternal damnation b by the followers of John.

Looks like a modern adaptation of a Colt 1903/08.

I've got an 08. Slide closes like a bank vault. I love that sound. While I love my Glocks, that 1908 has to be the coolest gun in my collection to handle.

It could be striker fired. Or not. Who cares? Heck, Para did those double-action "1911's" which went mostly nowhere. (Yes, I might have 2 of those, too. LOL They work well. Just too heavy to bother carrying.)

Colt did the same thing almost 30 years ago with their Double Eagle line:

Can I get an amen and a hallelujah brothers and sisters?

This is hysterical. Just what I needed to learn actually. Took me 3 times to read through this because I'd break out laughing.

It's always cool to see a new firearm company trying something "different" looks interesting, although there is definitely some serious gimmickry afoot.
That "low recoil spring is a ridiculous waste of important space. It's going to make mounting accessories and finding holsters a pain in the ass.
If they wanted mass down there. There are other strategies (like detachable weights and or accessories like lights). I'm looking forward to hearing some reviews before I completely disregard this as total hype. The video on the site is a bit over the top.

FYI: Batman called, he wants his grappling hook gun back. [rofl]

I thought it was going to be an integral laser/light, until I read about the recoil system. What a waste.

Of course, trigger safeties are stupid. If your finger is on the trigger and pulling it, you intend to fire the gun, so it's a waste of space. And I wonder how well this one will even work, since it hinges at the bottom.

I applaud them for trying something new and perhaps innovative. It's easy to second guess and question them for trying to put a different spin of such an iconic pistol. But I give them credit for trying to make their mark. It's easy for most to condemn or question them.

That's typical, I choose to encourage and wish them success. But alas....they probably won't be MA compliant anyway, so double the price and make them scarce right off the bat.

If that thing were in .45acp with plus 10 capacity and a bright as f@ck light built into that huge nose, that would be one sweet night stand gun.

ETA: $1147 MSRP. No thanks.

Ugly, too. Got kind of an early-Euro/pre-WWI look about it, except for whatever that is hanging off the muzzle.

Looks very interesting and definitely innovative. If it is half as good as they claim it will be a nice (shooting) gun. But so ugly in my opinion and Hudson, please stop comparing to the 1911. Let it stand alone on its own merits.

This really isn't a 1911.. This would be a whole new model of gun.. A 1911 is a 1911 period.. Once you start modifying the operation/appearance, it would no longer be considred a true 1911 (IMO)..

Absolutely not a 1911. Borrows a few features from it, is about the extent of it. If this is a tough, reliable gun though, it may very well be worth that MSRP.

I think it's fine as a stand alone pistol, they shouldn't be clamining it's an improved 1911 since thats not possible anyway. Its their version of the parts they like from various pistols and should be marketed that way

Id be curious to try one, don't see myself ever buying one tho

From what I read they are merely claiming to emulate a 1911 style trigger which I don't think is a bad thing. It is also not nearly a unique claim as many aftermarket triggers attempt to make that comparison.
