Does anyone know of any places to check out gun safes in person? I've been to the big box stores, dicks cabelas bass pro tractor supply, I was just wondering if any dealers stock them.

Rileys has a ton of them, Shooters outpost has a few as well. Most gun shops don't bother stocking safes because they have no floor space, so you gotta go to the big ones.

If you can hold out, some of those stores you mentioned OP will probably be leaking their Black Friday sales.

I've seen a couple I like but most of them are like what I have now,, which would be ok by me. I really just want to see what other things are out there. I don't have to run out and buy one tomorrow but I'm like behind capacity, and literally couldn't put another gun in there.

First Defense Firearms had a couple last I was in there.

Four Seasons sometimes has 1 or 2.

Costco, Sam's Club and BJ's will usually have one or 2 on the floor.

Eastern security in Mendon & Springfield

Not a fan. Pricey. I think they are more of a safe museum.... Weren't that interested in selling me what I wanted. And when I asked for something comparable to the Liberty I was looking for, he directed me to their own Eastern Security safe which was about $400 more than what I told him I wanted to pay.

Tractor Supply in Ipswich, Ma had a lot on the floor.

I didn't even realize there was a Tractor Supply in Ipswich. I'll have to stop by sometime.

FWIW, I bought my 32+6 gun safe from Dick's (yeah yeah I know) when it was on sale for either $600 or $700 - can't remember.

I bought that just over 2 years ago and I'm already finding myself needing another one. I got room for probably one more pistol and 2 rifles.

They have that 32+6 for 699 right now I believe. If that dropped more I'd probably jump on it and just use two safes. I have a 24 gun right now that's way over stuffed and I hate how unorganized it is.

What do you guys think of the cannon safes at tractor supply? Friend of mine has the 48 and likes it. I find it odd they sell the 48-60-80 all at 999

Their own named safes are Brownings and quite good, not inexpensive and not to be considered knock-offs.

I found that the fire rating was low on those, and it seemed to be of a lighter gauge steel.

Good luck!

After seeing what Eastern Security has you'll think everything else is junk...

Your right. My brother bought his big ass safe from there a few years back, after talking with them and them showing you the advantage of a good safe I couldn't see buying one anywhere else.

Eastern Safe has a nice selection and OK prices - about what you would pay elsewhere, but with great convenience. A place like Tractor Supply can probably beat them on a particular model they are having a special on, but those places don't have the higher grade stuff (like 3/16" or thicker walls).

Their delivery and moving service is on the pricey side (it works out to about $200-$300 per hour for their crew and truck), but they do an excellent job and know how to get safes moved without gouging or denting your safe or crapping out your house, plus nobody gets hurt. What you pay for the specialist you save in repair bills on your house as well as medical co-pays and deductibles. Plus, they are reliable - when they schedule an appointment, they keep it.

If you order on-line, it could be difficult arranging in-house delivery, plus there is no one to beat on locally if it gets screwed up. I bought my safe from Eastern because it was one stop "solve my problem". It cost a bit over $1000 to have the safe moved about seven miles, but that included moving it up a slope at the old house and down a bulkhead at the new place (and was a fraction the cost of a new safe).

Eastern is strong on the better line of "gun safes" but isn't the place to go if you are looking for a selection of TL30s like Tanns, Grafunders, Meilinks, etc. - though they can probably get you the new Liberty Commercial (the nicest gun safe I have ever seen, TL30 rated, electronic lock with S&G dial backup).

You do have to push a bit if you want the change key to the mechanical lock, since they are concerned about customers screwing it up.
