So, came across this. Instead of saying "this is stupid" or some other variation of such, how about a discussion of why you believe this will or will not pass and what the impact would be of this bill passing (e.g. major retailers going out of business).

Oh, another question this brings up for me: If you were to ban ammo or severely restrict the ability to obtain it, would that be considered a defacto ban on guns and therefore a 2A violation? Has that ever been argued?

I remember a court case in which a law was passed that shut down a business. The owner sued the government and won, in the end, the law was repealed. Now if only my google-fu can come through and find it.

First, I don't see this passing as long as Rs still have the house and senate. Second, under what authority would Congress impose this far-reaching legislation? If it did pass, I think it would end up in court for a whole bunch of reasons. Finally, we are screwed as a country.

They know it has zero chance of passing (they tried it a few years ago, and it failed), it won't even make it out of committee.

If it were to pass, Congress has the authority under the interstate commerce clause of the Constitution to regulate the sales.

Right, commerce clause. Most of the rulings/laws on that clause have been pure BS. I was thinking though if a manufacturer wanted only to operate within their own state, they shouldn't need the federal license, but that argument hasn't held up in other cases

This bill is like the one to reinstate the draft tax cheat charlie rangel files every year. It's a joke, it probably won't even get a vote in committee. There are hundreds of these joke bills filed each year. I'm sure this boob rookie congresswoman put out a press release saying how she filed rhe most comprehensive anti crime bill in decades, blah, blah.

This bill is as real as nancy pelosi's face.

I could see a class action suit filed before the ink was dry.
Millions in lost income to a legal industry, that will go over well.
It's not going anywhere.

Well in Oregon they called an emergency and are forcing us to register all private sales. Gave us no vote on it and kept the doors closed to opposing views. It's all getting pretty corrupt.

The gap between the opposite ends of the spectrum that states have on gun control is deepening and widening. Federal legislation has no chance anymore.

However, the antis are getting bolder, in that they are emerging from the shell of "public safety" and "gun violence" and starting to sprinkle in "threat to the State" as the reason for gun control.

There's no way it could happen. There's no way a the government can strong-arm businesses to prevent them from shipping ammo to residents. Right MA residents? [rolleyes]

I don't see it

Varnell Hopkins IIIMs. Watson, it us not your place to restrict the liberties of your constituents and by extension the people of this country. Your proposal is not in agreement with the Constitution that you swore to uphold. You are working toward the disarmament of the American people and in doing so you are standing on the side of Alopf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse-Tung, the Klu Klux Klan and all those that disarmed elements of their populace.
Michael Wallace Another solution looking for a problem...let's pick the low hanging fruit some more and ignore the real problem of violence plaguing this state.
Mitch Nichols She needs to carry a houseplant around, to replace the oxygen she's wasting.
Matt Tolman This is bad legislation and poor leadership. I suggest you reread the constitution.
Steve MacComasWhen you have the guts to go after the criminals instead of law abiding citizens we might not need so much ammo. But as it is because law makers won't do their job we law abiding citizens are forced to do it for you. When it comes to protecting my family and myself you best stay out of the way or you will find yourself in the unemployment line. You work for us not the other way around. You are a servant, learn to act like it.
David Camy Criminals obey gun laws like politicians obey their oath of office. I saw a movie once where only the police and the military had guns...it was called Schindlers List. Quit messing with our freedoms!!! What are you? Some kind of twisted Marxist lefty commie? Of course you are...your goal will end up DOA!!!

If our congress really wanted to play **** **** with us they would do other things like.

1. Ban or restrict import of smokless gun powder. Very little powder is made here in the US.
2. Tell ATK to beat feet and get off the Lake City complex. The two largest ammo and powder facilities are owned by our lovely government.
3. just tax the shit out of it more than they already do. You do know US charges ammunition manufactures a tax on the stuff they produce.

They only thing I can think of is as long as our congress folks are tied into the big corporations that produce gun stuff it will take time to ban ammo sales.

But this proposal let's them have their cake and eat it too...they can profit from it, but control who gets to buy, and know who and how much so they can dispatch JBT to confiscate when the political will exists for that to happen.
