Just sanded my .22 stock by hand completely.. Once the blisters on the thumbs heal, id like to paint it..
Purpose of this thread is for suggestions/tips
Thinking an American flag- blue with white stars on butt stock and white and red stripes along the length
And "All gave some on the left side, Some gave all" on the right(bolt side)

I want to do it out of respect, however would it be offensive on a .22?
Its a marlin 80g

I did a google search and a gun "the patriot" caught my eye.
What do you think?

(I am not military btw, got denied when i was 18 for 16# over)

Really depends on how good an artist you are; either with a brush or airbrush.

Myself, I wouldn't even think about it because I know it would end up looking like total shit. [sad2]

I was going to paint the stock white, put star stickers on it then spray it over in blue, remove star stickers, tape off the back then tape off for the red stripes.. 2000grit wetsand, and like a shit ton of clear coat

If you've got the artistic talent, I say go for it. Worst case, you can always strip it back down.

I know that I couldn't do it without it looking cartoon-ish. I just did a similar concept on a set of cornhole boards, and it definitely isn't something I would do to a gun. My painting skills are almost as bad as my design skills.

anything with the red, white, and blue will be fine, as long as it's done well. best of luck
edit: no need to over-do the clear coats 3-4 should do it. this is my marlin 60

Talking to an air brush artist is always an option. It's amazing what some can do! At least that's what I would do, never could color between the lines [thinking]

First coat of poly drying, decided not to attempt the flag theme saw this color stain at HD and liked it, really hard to capture it in a picture

This is timely for me. I have a birchwood stock I need to finish. It's sanded and I was contemplating a water based finish. Did you use oil?

Waterbased id advise against it. Oil is better, or spirit based? (Read it) also read if you rub the stock down with rubbing alcohol it would come out nicer.. Idk the truth to this read it after the fact.
