Hi All,

I just picked up an old Mossberg 20ga shotgun for some fun at the range.

My club's range only allows steel shot. Apparently Mossberg doesn't recommend steel shot with their older "C-LECT-CHOKE" models.

Any idea what would happen if I used steel shot in this gun?

Also, any ideas if Bismuth is safe?

The gun is a model 385KA.

Thanks,

David

I believe they are worried about the harder steel shot potentially breaking off the "tabs" that make up the adjustable choke. I don't know if Bismuth would be any better.

Call Mossberg and ask.

Bismuth is actually as soft as lead and slightly less dense. It is perfectly fine as a non-toxic lead substitute for shotguns incapable of handling steel shot.

Poly-Choke or Truglo ?

I want to buy an adjustable choke for my Mossberg 500A. I use it mainly for turkey and deer. Any thoughts on which one may reduce recoil more?
Thanks, John.
