Thanks to a grant from the NRA Foundation, the Rod & Gun Club of New Bedford is hosting a 5 stage Steel Challenge match on Sunday - December 11th. You will need a minimum of 125 rounds (you should bring at least 200 rounds). Registration open until 9:25am, shooting starts at 9:30am.

Entry fee: $15
Juniors (under 18): $10

Only a single entry per shooter. No armor piercing ammo allowed.

Steel Challenge info can be found here: http://steelchallenge.com/

Info and directions to the club are here: http://www.rodgun-nb.org/directions.htm

Many, MANY different divisions to choose from:
Center Fire - Open
Center Fire - Iron Sights
Center Fire - Production
Revolver - Open
Revolver - Iron Sights
Revolver - Cowboy Single Action
Rimfire Pistol - Open
Rimfire Pistol - Iron Sights
Rimfire Rifle - Open
Rimfire Rifle - Iron Sights
Pistol Caliber Carbine - Open
Pistol Caliber Carbine - Iron Sights

Minimum caliber for Center Fire divisions is 9x19 / .38 Special. Rimfire division must be .22LR only.

Rimfire pistol, Rimfire rifle and Pistol Caliber Carbine start from the low-ready. All other divisions start from a holster. If you don’t have a holster, you can still play, you will just be assessed a small time penalty (1 second per run) to make up for it.

Steel Challenge is lots of fun, involves very little or no movement, great for kids (as long as they are safe and have good gun handling skills - parent or guardian must be present). Shooters of all skill levels will enjoy this sport, from the most basic novice to the most experienced grand masters. New shooters welcome, as are spectators. Everyone on the range must wear eye and ear protection at ALL TIMES.

Definately up for trying another steel challenge. Going to check about getting the day off from work. Maybe bring 1 or 2 more shooters.

Oh wow... if I can get some loaders for my 617 I may have to give that a whirl.

Glad to see NB so active! Hot stuff.

Weather forecast for tomorrow is lots of sunshine but a little on the chilly side (in the 40's).

Reminder: You will need a minimum of 125 rounds (you should bring at least 200 rounds). Registration open from 9am until 9:25am, shooting starts at 9:30am.

Hope to see you all there.

Thanks to the Rod & Gun Club of New Bedford Action Pistol committee for another great season. Glad I was able to make it to your last match of the season. See you in the spring (Unless you do some winter shooting [wink])

This was my first steel challenge, and I had a blast today. Thank you to the NB, I am looking forward next year.

Took the red dot I used for the last match off of my 15-22 for this one, dropped one spot to 2nd overall; got edged out by .56 seconds! AUGH! [laugh]

Good times, I wish there were more Steel Challenge matches through out the year.

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the results -- 13th overall and DFL in my division. AND, I got smoked by a little GIRL (great job, Cleo)! Sheesh -- I can't catch a break in this stuff. Maybe I should try shooting a "real" modern weapon next time????

What a beautiful way to spend a lovely Sunday morning in December, no?

You were there?

Hey Gary,

Yeah, I was a little late so I didn't get to socialize. Dave grabbed me and put me to work RO'ing in his squad. Had a ball shootin' the '67 Weatherby XXII with the matching scope. Old gun, old glass, old eyes, old body. Everything hurts but I had a hoot of a time.

We'll catch up later next spring, yes?
