So Adam and I have a ridiculously awesome little side project in mind and need two steel bases for mounting things on a rail. Something like what you see at the following links..

but in steel would be ideal. If the bases have stuff on them, we can happily remove it, but the core of the base needs to provide a flat surface to which Adam can weld steel. Anyone know where I can pick up something appropriate without spending a fortune? We'll need two and I really don't want to dump $200 into BASES for a project that has nothing to do with accuracy or high end performance.

Thanks.

If it works, it'll show up at an NES shoot of course. [wink]

any gun store will have a plethora of things that mount to rails that can be modified. First thing that comes to mind is cheap scope rings that you could cut down and weld whatever you want to you can pick those up for 20-30 bucks

Can't think of anything steel really I think I paid $15 for my aluminum flashlight mount... Have you looked at yhm that have a lot of inexpensive rail stuff think I paid $30 for a bipod mount from them that's rather sturdy i.e. I think it's steel!

I have also tried to source steel rail it is very expensive. If space allows then drill and tap some flat bar stock and weld that where needed. Then mount a flat bottomed rail to that using screws to attach the rail to the welded bar stock.

Something like this, perhaps?
