A state trooper and a Boston cop are under investigation after they allegedly brawled outside the Faith Hill/Tim McGraw concert at the TD Banknorth Garden late Monday night, a fight that sent the city officer to the hospital in an ambulance.
The Boston cop, Edward MacPherson, remained out injured yesterday after he was treated and released at Massachusetts General Hospital. Trooper Robert Grover of the state police Marine Section, refused medical aid at the scene.
The two cops - both in uniform - began to argue loudly as the Garden emptied out about 11 p.m., a dispute that escalated into a full-on rumble, sources said. Grover was reportedly angry about the way MacPherson was directing limousine traffic outside 11 Causeway St. The fight was witnessed by dozens of country music fans in cowboy hats and fringe vests.
MacPherson was working a paid detail at the country concert and is out of work injured by the fight, said BPD spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll. She refused further comment. It was unclear what Grover’s role was at the event. A state police spokesman could not be reached last night.
It is the third incident of violence involving local cops this month. On June 7, off-duty state Trooper Joseph A. Gray was stabbed four times during an altercation with a Dorchester man in Chinatown. Meanwhile, two Boston cops are under investigation after Officer Paul Durkin allegedly shot Officer Joseph Behnke in the hip after a night of partying last week.
