Straw purchases or stolen?

SPRINGFIELD – Police confiscated 10 guns and arrested a 25-year-old man following a joint investigation into firearms trafficking.

Alidaud Whitehead, of Jonesboro, Georgia, was arrested Wednesday and charged with trafficking in 10 or more firearms, 10 counts of carrying a firearm and ammunition without a license, two counts of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, four counts of possession of a high capacity magazine, carrying a dangerous weapon with an active warrant and on an arrest warrant for failure to attend jury duty, said Ryan Walsh, police spokesman.

The Springfield Police Narcotics Bureau under the direction of Capt. Brian Keenan working with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives under Special Agent Kelly D. Brady had been investigating Whitehead for several months on possible firearms trafficking, after local police recovered several illegally-possessed guns from Georgia, he said.

At about 5:40 p.m., Whitehead was apprehended on Lyman Street and police seized 10 guns in his backpack, including four that contained high-capacity magazines. Amtrack Police assisted in the arrest, which took place on Lyman Street on railroad property, Walsh said.

“This investigation exemplifies ATF’s mission to work with our state and local partners to combat the illegal trafficking of firearms, which in the wrong hands, could be used in crimes of violence against our citizens or law enforcement officers,” Brady said.

“This was excellent work by our narcotics detectives working with our Federal partner in the ATF. The investigation was in-depth and this will hopefully slow the flow of illegal firearms across state lines into our city. We have seized more than 200 guns this year in our city and this type of local-federal collaboration will hopefully lead to this individual being held,” said Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood.

In the past year Springfield Police have seized a total of 274 firearms, including the 10 in Wednesday’s arrest. This is the highest number of guns seized in a single year since at least 2015.

FINALLY...

A respectable cache of guns.

Those are some nice looking Glocks.

So often these types have guns held together with duct tape, rubber bands and hose clamps.

Unfortunately those Glocks can easily kill us.

Marsha should issue a new edict to make them illegal.

This gentleman would have been wise to buy pre ban mags considering he'll do an extra 10 years for those hi caps.

Good collar.

The only actual crime that occurred here...

Doubt it. I don't even see awb charges there. LCAFD w/o license is 1000 times easier for them.

  1. Is the active warrant the arrest warrant for failure to attend jury duty? What are the odds that he has no priors and is actually suitable for jury duty?
  2. He should at least ask for the charges to be separated, so that if he's convicted on the gun stuff, they can broom the jury duty charges as moot...

I am betting by the time that shit goes to trial or gets plead out that 90% of those charges will get or will have been dropped, unless the feds indict him for something (unlikely unless the guy has enough gun felonies they can get him on a massive fed law bingo bonus fest for the US attorneys office....

The "shotgunning" pattern of charges is usually a scare tactic to "persuade" the accused into just sucking for a plea deal, etc and try to disabuse the notion of a trial. "You can just sign heah and eat this fel-a-knee and only do a couple years in the can or maybe one with good behaviah, or you can go to trial and risk getting 10 years, we all know how this works mr deusendubah.... "

Unless they hold him without bail, he'll be back in Georgia and will fail to appear in court in Springfield.

If the feds have their claws fully into him none of this matters, if they're going to indict this guy is cooked for probably at least 1-2
years if not more.

most of the charges are state charges, the feds are chasing people over state lines for jury duty issues?

if he were in new hampshire or vermont there would be no gun charges

Probably an illegal that they'll have to let go before ICE can get him, plus he's going to be the only gun store that will be open after Biben takes over.
Ahh yes, the old "he's a minority so therefore he can't possibly be an American" trope, love it when the racists pop out of the woodwork to say hi.
We both know it's not "Americans don't commit crimes trope" because that isn't a thing, and if it were we'd all point out its bullshit.

Get a grip.

At least I don't decapitate stuffed animals. In a nation of immigrants why do you think they're all minorities? Maybe look in a mirror sometime.

Exactly. This young man would have done the world a favor by serving on a grand jury and refusing to indict.
1. Grand Juries operate on a voting system, non unanimous verdict like petit juries.
2. Petit jury summons are much more common.
3. I didn't see any indication in the article that he was summoned for a grand jury.
