its on my short list of must haves.
Life would not be the same without my SOCOM-16.... Muzzle blast - schmuzzle blast.... Buy it, prep it properly and have a nice life...
I saw a nice brand new M1A National Match....it was going for 1,900.00
I'm surely going to get one but that's going to take a little while before I can buy. My next purchases are going to be an M1 Garand and the M1A.
The local shop just got the M1A Socom 16 in stock. What a nice rifle....very pricey. Anyone have one of these? How do you like it....
I can't afford it now...maybe they'll do a layaway lol
Weight being the first, bedded being the second, double lugged receiver being the 3rd...The Standard Loaded is a tack driver, yet still retains the ability to be easily stripped down and great stock choices due to the single lug...
a) Get the loaded (casue it comes with the national match barrel), then
b) replace the flash hider with troy claymore muzzle break , then
c) throw away the stock and slap a Troy SASS package on it, then
d) top it with a serious piece of glass on the top; and finally
e) kick back and bask in the sheer awsomeness.
So in summary, save now, save later, purchase much and remember if you are in MA the order of operations above is important, elsewhere not as much.
f) go to the gym for 6 months so that you can actually shoot that now 14 lb rifle offhand.a) Get the loaded (casue it comes with the national match barrel), then

I can't say the final result there is bad. However, my M1A is a loaded/stainless/walnut and it's staying the way it is. I like using the iron sights on it and I like the way it looks. To each their own though.
I've had my plain Jane M1A for @15yrs. I have had no issues, and I don't personally see much reason to do a lot of changing to it. For everything you do/ add you lose something else, it's always a trade off.
If the scout or soccom were available when I got mine, I would have opted for one of these due to the shorter barrel and some weight saving.
if you really want an ultra accurate gun, buy the best scope you can afford and then attach it to a rem700..
Love the classic look, True enough about the 700, but neither the 700 nor the stock M1A will cause liberals to wet their pants like the sheer evilness of the setup I discribe. All the more reason to buy 2, one for the classics one for the intimidation factor.
And yes, it weighs at least 14 pounds

I just scored a like new loaded with 4 prebans for 1200. Pretty sweet deal... I have been to the range a few times with her and I think I perfer the Ar platform. She may ende up for sale shortly.
