Does any one have any recommendations on a good Spotting scope? I'm just getting into rifling and using Iron sights on my AR-15. Would be nice to see where my groupings are. My current range I can only shoot about a 100 yards. May look into signing up elsewhere If i want to go for more distance. Any good brands or what to look for. I'm new to this.

the celestron ultima 80 has been suggested here as decent. I have one - works fine for that distance

I agree with Daveyburt. Try a search on NES, there are a few threads with lots of info on this exact topic and could be useful in making a decision.

This. I have one and seeing .223 AR holes in the black at 200 yards isn't an issue. I got mine from Optics Planet about a year ago for $150 with the stand included. The stand is just okay, but it's good enough for me.

ETA: it's gone up in price a little--$169 with free shipping.

I purchased a cheap on @ BJs whole sale. for the 50 bucks I spent its dam good. Feels a bit fragile so keep those cheap scopes in the bag and case. My tripod shit the bed after a year.
Clearity ? good for the money.
Focus, very touchy and really needs to be played with I use this scope to look at the wildlife across the bogs @ long distance I pick up mirrage really well and its surprises me how clear it is @ distance.
So that said This POS 50.00 scope does well @ 100 yards for 223 holes on 27 power
and until you look through and use a better one it will do....

I will get as better scope but not till after I go to match and put my eyeball on some.

A while back a fellow NES member was selling a bunch of random stuff and one was a spotting scope that had been broken at the base so he reattached it with some super-strong adhesive. I bought it for $20 and it works perfectly. At 100 yards you can see 5.56 holes just fine.

I'm tempted to buy one of the Tasco's at my local Wally world. Has anyone tried one of those?

You get what you pay for, especially in optics. I started with a $50 Simmons, I thought squinting thru it to see .223 holes at 100 yards was normal.

My mid-grade $200 optic can see .223 holes clearly at 200 yards...it's Burris 20-60x80mm Landmark. It's big, but I'm very satisfied with it.

I bought a Bushnell "demo" from Dick's that works OK. I am a little disappointed about the case, however. It fell apart a couple of days after I bought it. I am not real happy with "Dick's" as this is not the first time one of their products has self destructed. From my prior experience I am well aware that I will get no satisfaction. Screw Dicks!
