Thats why when I go to bed, I put my phone on DO NOT DISTURB. The only calls that come thru are the 10 contacts that I personally pick. Mostly all family members......

Good reason to set the "do not disturb" time range on your phone. Well, if you only have a cell and no "land line". After a ~4am call attempt from someone that shouldn't have called me, I set that up on mine. Even though mine wasn't technically SPAM.

BTW, setting up the time range means you don't need to remember to do it each night. I do think I have it set to allow some calls through, but maybe not. If a call comes in during those hours, I'm not doing jack shit anyway. So they can leave a message.

Best one lately is the rando call mid-day. "Hello?"

    Recording. IN CHINESE!

I'm sorry. Are there that many Chinese people with cell phones in Massachusetts that calling every single one of them will produce a profit for this company????

(I'm assuming it's Chinese. It's something Asian. Or is the language Oriental? I forget when to use Oriental. LOL)

i've been using that call filter app from verizon, it works. any call not in your directory get diverted with no ring. you can set 3 levels of spam calling. the caller id still works. i've had it for a couple of months.

Nothing filters these calls out for long. I've had to shut off my phone at night to get some sleep. I'm ready to shoot my phone.

All spam callers and telemarketers should be sent directly to ISIS for beheading.

LOL... I know that one, I got it while at the office, left to me as a voice mail. I asked the Chinese guy who sits next to me to translate it for me. IIRC it was some kind of scam trying to make some claim about their visa status or something like that.

I have this double pole, single throw switch that breaks the red and green to all the landline phones in the house. Jack.

    OK, total funny phone aside.

Watching an old TV show the other day with fam. Power goes out. Phone rings. My 20yo jumps up, "BULLS#IT! Phones can't work with the power out! How did they miss that???!!!!"

I then had to tell her that phones had their own power supply back then and you could still call on a land-line back in the day. She was dumbfounded.

I have 2 phone numbers on my favorites list. My son and a friend who is a single mom with her ex living nearby (he's a dick). Every night my phone automatically goes on "do not disturb" and only these 2 can call or text through. When my husband or I travel, I list him as a favorite so calls and texts from him will come through and then I remove him from that list when we are together. Mostly in the morning I turn off the "do not disturb" before it's scheduled.

MANY years ago when we lived in Meffa we had to rent the phones from Bell. I "scrounged" a lot of phones and had one in every room. The tech came to the house one day to see why it took so much current draw to ring only one phone. He looked at the main terminal which was "theirs" and took off all but one of the lines which lead to "their" phone. I had all the lines back on before he took off in his truck. Jack.

I forgot that. What was it? More than 7 phones and it was drawing too much power to ring any of them? I think it was 7. 7 seemed excessive to me. LOL

I had a phone in most every room but I disconnected the wires to the bell/ringer in all but 2 of them, thus never had a problem with Ma Bell.

I think I had 5 or 6. The phone wires were pretty substantial back then and there was little line loss. Jack.

This! My thought was why should you have to walk to another room to answer the phone when you could have a phone in each room. I still have a yellow bell tell wall mount phone with 2 wires w alligator clips that I used to test phone jack wiring.

If I'm not mistaken oriental = east and occidental = west. Asian is a race of people.

In my former career employees were not allowed to bring cell phones to work. It was the best 8 hours of my day. Well, being at work kind of sucked, but not being tethered to a phone was awesome.

Profit? a reaponse rate of 1 in 10,000 is profitable for scammers. Their only overhead is the PRIs or whatever they buy to run their wardialers....

The problem with this for me is that a few of my MD's use an outside autodialer for appointment reminders. I have listed a couple of those as spam callers and missed an appointment. I've solved this by setting my phone clock alarm at the MD's office for my next appointment.

we all did that. The trick...if you disconnected the ringer bell in the phone, the current draw went WAY down...so they could not detect it then. You left two or three with the bells attached so you could hear the rings in the house.
