Sorry guys if this has been beat to death already, but I've read through much of these posts and maybe I missed it or perhaps I am just thick.

But, an SP1 manufactured in 1976... definately preban by date, but is it still banned in CT.

Sorry again for flogging a dead horse.

An SP1 made in 1976 (ish) is absolutely positively 100% legal.

It is obviously pre(94)ban. And it is not named in the new law. ( PA13-3)

So it is legal, as is, with all the evil features that you would ever want. So throw that modern BCM upper on it and carry it uncased in the passenger compartment of your car. Just because you can.

Remember, per the law, this firearm is a rifle. Its not an AW. So no license is needed to possess, transport, or carry it. You can drive down the road with it across your lap and a loaded mag (10 rounds only, phuckers) in your hand and your are legal as long s you don't put the mag in the rifle.

Don

p.s. Text of the relevant portion of the law is below. Please note that for an Colt rifle to be banned by name it must be an AR15 (with no suffix or additional names) or a Sporter, with no suffix or additional names. So a Colt Sporter is banned by name. But a "Target HBar Sporter" is legal. The same goes for an AR15. An AR15 SP1 is legal, an AR15 is not.

The State police have issued a letter stating that all pre-94 guns are legal, even if they are named. However, Attorney Rachel Baird, working for CT Carry has in her analysis determined that that is incorrect and the pre-94-ban exemption only applies to un-named firearms. So its best to avoid the ambiguity. So again, your gun is perfectly legal, because of the SP1 designation, it is not on the named list.
