03/28 : Student protest

Whittier area students from Pioneer, California and Whittier high schools walked out of classes to protest the proposed federal immigration bill March 27, 2006. The protestors put up the Mexican flag over the American flag flying upside down at Montebello High. (Leo Jarzomb/Staff photo)

I dunno. Getting high school kids to walk out of class isn't terribly difficult.

And it's no surprise that a PUBLIC school would have a bunch of lefty asshats who have no problem with the improper display of the American flag.

I'm sure it was tough convincing them too.

"Kids you can stay inside and take this math test or you can go outside and mingle" [rolleyes]

Just like south park last night.

Then too, it happened in California, and not knowing the current demographics or either Whittier or Pioneer, there could be a sizeable Hispanic population at the school with familial ties to illegal immigrants. Then again, the simple answer: I'd protest anything if it got me out of class or school.

I find it curious that we have to resort to name-calling and bashing to make a point. I'm sure that all of us find these actions by a bunch of high school students deplorable, regardless of our respective political afflitation.[sad2]

I don't consider myself Republican or Democrate. I'm an American.

I disagree with either side of the floor on many, many issues. Unfortunately, here in MA we have to choose a side to vote on most issues.[frown]

Anyway... I'll return this to the topic already in progress.

I tend to agree with Jaxon on this. Kids WILL be kids. THis doesn't surprise me at all.

The reason most teachers are Liberals? Non-Liberals don't want to teach, or become uncomfortable with the educational institutions. I've known this for some time. I have a dear friend (fellow Dead Horse) in NJ, she's a teacher. She's to the right of almost every person that posts here on most issues, including ME.

That's encouraging! Just to know that there's at least ONE teacher out there that isn't filling innocent minds with left wing diarrhea!

Oh I'm sure there are, and I pray that there is. However you start to lose hope when you have people like that TOOL in Colorado I think it was. It's just encouraging.

Now there's one important point many folks have missed. When the American flag is flown upside down, it is a call for help, a distress signal. Unwittingly, these poor, misunderstood youths have sent a signal that in effect says, "we're being overrun with Mexicans. Send help. Now." I just had to laugh.

Montebello was mostly hispanic 35-40 years ago, and Whittier was well on the way. Outside the usual media areas (L.A., S.F, and the immediate surrounding areas and a couple of other heavily hispanic southern areas) it could be rather dangerous to try pulling this sort of shit. It's the same as in the '60's and early '70's: the media always showed scenes of troops leaving from or returning to Travis AFB, because there were sure to be a buch of asshat protesters around. I don't think there ever showed a single flight returning to Norton, AFB, even though more troops flew through there, since the local population was close to 100% pro-military.

Hey, I'm a public school teacher!!! I did my first five years of teaching in Newton, of all places. (now teaching at a vocational high school) Yes, Newton, liberal wacko capital of Massachusetts. Even there a few sensible teachers could be found with moderate to conservative viewpoints, although most conservatives, like me, taught in the vocational areas. The old guard teachers in Massachusetts vote liberal because the liberal Dems tend to fund public education better. Republicans tend to look more closely at HOW THE EDUCATION DOLLAR IS SPENT. This to me is far more important. While I still feel many teachers are underpaid, the state's education bureaucracy tends to eat up a lot of money that should be getting to the children. I could go on, but I'll save it for a future thread on public education.

Regards,
Chris

No need to panic, they are just invading our country through excessive breeding and illegal immigration.
