just got my tax returns...$1200...what should i buy???? i thought i knew what i wanted...but i'm torn now...should i get a preban colt hbar? an armalite ar-15 a2??? a jld ptr 91??? a 1911??? tooooo many choices...someone throw some suggestions out there[devil] [devil]

Get married. That will lighten your wallet.

On a serious note, Have you thought about multiple guns. You can get a nice S&W 1911 for around $800. Then get your self a nice plinking gun. I must say my savage .17 HMR is a boat load of fun and wasn't a huge strain on the funds.

Well for me it'd be a milsurp thats hard to obtain like a G43, or other rare semi auto thats rising in collector value. Then theres always a nice M1 Garand from CMP with money left over for their surplus ammo. Or you can do like mentioned here and pick up something fun to shoot like a 17hmr. The new Savage with custom stock and accutrigger (bvss i think its called) is out now for about $350.
Whatever you decide to buy do your self a favor and stock up on some ammo for it, and get the good ammo. No telling how hard ammo will be to find when you really want to shoot whatever it is you buy.

typeo...im only 21...i stay out of relationships...women are the devil...if i had a g/f i wouldnt be able to afford a new gun every other week...and i dont see marriage or kids (hope not) in my very near future...not at least until i'm done with grad school...but you kinda depressed me with the though of it...yikes

as far as a plinker goes...my very first gun was a 10/22...its got a nice lil scope on it and i can tear out the x ring on a target all day long with it...i've come to love ar's because they are modified so easily...i already have a bushy carbine with an eotech and was looking at the fullsize with maybe an acog

im having second thoughts about the ptr 91 because i realized you cant get them with a flash hider in this state, and for me...thats a buzzkill

milsurps...after i posted i was thinking along those lines...its been over a year since my last military surplus purchase and i was thinking of an m1 carbine...or maybe an m1a...not exactly milsurp but kinda fits the bill

Buy some used handguns. Why spend all your money on one large purchase. In my confused gun addicted mind I belive every one should as many handguns as they can.. I'll even pick a few of my favorites out the Four Seasons web site for you. If you notice each one is a S&W and come with a life time warrenty even though there used.

Smith & Wesson 1911 .45 ACP $599.95
Smith & Wesson SW40F .40S&W PAL9xxx $229.95
Smith & Wesson 5906 9mm VCA5xxx $369.95
Total $1199.85

If you dont have an AR its an easy choice.

And I would look at a nice new M1 from springfield though it will cost you more than the $1200.

If you have to keep under budget I also think the new S&W 1911's are sweet, though I have not handled one at the range myself.

A new Springfield M1 Garand? If so mine was a little over $900 from Terry at Colector's Firearms.

Ya know I should never look at MSRP on manufacturers websites... those stick in the back of my mind and can make or break a buying decision.... Thanks for the update on that.

It's that easy.

The last thing I'd do is buy an M1 Garand from Springfield. Overpriced. Get that from CMP, and then rework it if you want. You can buy one from CMP for $400 to $500. You could have it rebarreled if you want, and still have plenty of money left for ammo.

An M1A is good, though. Or an early Federal Ordnance M14A.

If you get an AR, get a Colt or Bushmaster. The rest leave some to be desired.

as far as a garand goes...my cousin paid top dollar for a brand new one from springfield armory and has already sent the gun back 3 times for various problems...so if i were to get a garand i'd either try to go through cmp or find a deal on gunbroker

ive been looking long and hard at the socom 16's...or a fully loaded m1a...a little bit more than what i got back in tax returns but i dont mind spending that much

i already have a bushmaster ar carbine...i've been lookin at the preban colt a2 sporters that are out there...

also...since they came out i've wanted a beretta cx4 storm and the thoughts have that have piqued my interest again...

My take on the "new" SA Garands is that they're new/rearsenaled. Mine is as close to a perfect and brand new M1 Garand as i'll probably get and it shoots trouble free with incredible accuracy. No worn out parts, perfect barrel, etc.
I will get a CMP M1 soon just to have a war baby, but theres no way I regret getting my new SA one.

What to buy

I'd first get a C&R license. Then go online and invest in an assortment of WW 2 stuff still available. It's better than money in the bank. All that stuff is going out of sight! You can then trade it up later at great profit to buyy the guns you really want! Go down to the Milsurp space, someone will surely steer you right. You can take more time this way to decide what you want and end up with more money to spend in the end.

ken...hahahaha...cuz unfortunately i dont have the connections you do...or believe me...i'd absolutely love one...why dont you just sell me one of yours...you can get another one cant ya haha

hhrgprez...before i had my class A license all i bought was milsurps...i own about 40 milsurps so far...otherwise i'd prob do what you suggest

You haven't mentioned what, if any, training you've had.

In my never particularly humble opinion, there's too much emphasis on acquiring new hardware and not enough on acquiring personal SKILLS.

You've already got plenty of hardware. Now upgrade your operating system!

You mentioned that you already have an AR-15 with an Eotech? Sigarms Academy will be hosting a 3-day Gunsite Tactical Carbine training class in early August.

Taking that makes more sense that just acquiring another slightly different gun.

Regards
John

the hookers and blow were tonight at my buddys bachelor party...and i already got a bushy a3 with the eotech

darius...i was thinking the same thing...but i was also thinking about availability...the sw is a purchase i can make any day of the week...the other 2 are kinda rare birds around these parts

If you end up getting the AR and come to find you aren't shooting it very much, get yourself a Trijicon TriPower red dot sight and a cantilever mount. In no time you'll be putting a ton of rounds downrange. Fun!

how about a bushy A3 carbine (removable carry handle) and an eotech!

Heh, thats 3 things that are hard to afford after you get married. Live it up now you youngsters/bachelors. I got the evil glance when I mentioned I was thinking about picking up an XBOX360 yesterday after playing Fight Night on one at Target.[sad2]

darius...im pretty torn...i reeeeeeeally want the colt AR to go with my bushy carbine(which is currently in the shop)...but...knowing the colt has been sittin the gun store for so long i dont think its goin anywhere anytime fast...i just found the vepr...and seeing as its no longer made and is one of the better AK's i figured i should jump on the opportunity...and i was originally gonna buy an AR15 pistol...but after i found out the ballistics of the round coming out of the 7 inch barrel are equivalent to that of a 22 mag i decided against it

mil4me...xbox 360 is the balls!!! get call of duty for it ...oh man youll love it...i dont know if you like golf at all...but the tiger woods golf game is incredible on there...i dont even like golf games but the graphics are nuts
