Ive already searched for things like SBR/Short barrel rifle, form 1 in the search engine, to no avail.

So does anyone have a link to what is need to get an SBR AR, ive seen the sticky for the NFA centric question and all it really told me was that SBR was legal. I have a small understanding of what a form 1 is, its the form you need to get sign by your local CLEO? Now besides talking to a lawyer whats the basic run down of doing a trust. And other than that you have to do paperwork for the ATF and pay 200 for the tax stamp for only one rifle.

Im thinking its probably easier to ask a class 3 dealer these questions but I dont know of any that are here in western ma. Any directions to who to talk to or link is great, thank you for the help

I don't really know what your question is...Do you want to buy an SBR or build one?

If you want to buy one, you will use a ATF FORM 4 http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-5320-4.pdf if you want to build one it will be on an ATF FORM 1 http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-5320-1.pdf . You cant take possession (or build) it until the forms are approved by ATF. Either way it will be a $200 tax.

If "you" are an individual you will need CLEO signature, 2 "passport" photos, 2 sets of completed print cards, and a completed "certificate of compliance" http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-5330-20.pdf along with your FORM4 (or 1). If "you" are a corporation/trust/etc you will only need the above certificate of compliance for whoever signed the FORM 4 (or 1).

Take a look at the forms, they aren't that hard to follow, ther than that go hang out at some of the popular NFA sites: www.subguns.com, www.uzitalk.com, www.sturmgewehr.com, or for a more local spin www.northeastmachinegunfun.com

I will soon (hopefully) be new to the NFA world, and I have a few questions about what the various forms are used for. www.northeastmachinegunfun.com seems to be non responsive, I don't know if its a temporary problem with their server or if they have gone away. But something like that is probably a good place for information. Any other thoughts? Or can someone point me to a link that lists all the farms and there use so I can note the differences? Are trusts worthwhile enacting even if you believe you won't have a unusually difficult time getting approval? Color me confused.

The forms are pretty simple

Form 1 if you want to build your own
Form4 if you want to buy a pre-existing

Trusts have pros and cons. For me it is worth it not to have to beg for someones signature and send in fingerprint cards every time I want to build/buy something. It's also nice to have a plan in place for what to do with the firearms when you pass on.

Try reading up here; note that none of this info is MA specific.

Yeah it looks like that site is no longer around. However the other 3 are still very much alive and well. Basicly forums with "heavy" nfa content are good places to lurk around on, as many of those on the sites have decades of experience.

Trusts, there have been many threads on the pros and cons...personally if you can get a sign off easily I see no reason to bother with a trust...

Look no further than the atf's site for a list of forms and what they are used for... http://www.atf.gov/forms/firearms/ (scroll down untill you get to the forms that start with 5320., those are the NFA forms) the ones that you will probably most want to look at is the form 4, form 1, 5320.20, and maybe form 5.
