Course Description: This course is designed for those who want to improve or get started in America's fastest growing practical pistol discipline, the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA). Whether you're a new or an experienced competitive shooter, this class will open the door to a fun and realistic way to improve your gun handling skills. Jeff Cooper, Massad Ayoob, Mike Dalton, Dan Bernoulli, and Jim Cirillo all credit the experience of competitive shooting for helping them stay cool under pressure.

Practical Applications content:

You will learn:

  • How to safely compete in an IDPA match
  • What equipment works best
  • IDPA rules and mindset
  • Techniques to improve your speed and accuracy
  • How to shoot the 90 round Classifier (and receive your IDPA Classification in the process)
  • How to approach IDPA scenarios that require the practical application of defensive skills such as:

    1. drawing from concealment
    2. shooting on the move
    3. flashlight technique
    4. engaging reactive targets
    5. weak hand and strong hand shooting
    6. tactical reloads
    7. use of cover

Not to mention, the fun of IDPA competition and much, much more.


THIS IS NOT A NOVICE CLASS. Demonstrable USPSA or IDPA competition experience, law enforcement or military handgun training or previous completion of SIGARMS Academy or Grayguns Inc. practical handgun courses or equivalent is required. Please inquire with the SIGARMS Academy staff for clarification.
Equipment Requirements: A hiqh-quality, safe and reliable Service Pistol with at least 5 extra magazines, lockable gun case, straight-drop Kydex holster, appropriate gun belt and carriers for at least 2 spare magazines on the belt, flashlight, concealment garment, eye and ear protection and at least 300 rounds of Frangible and 600 rounds of standard-velocity non-expanding factory ammunition, Lunch and Drinks, and please be prepared for Rain or Shine.
