I live In fall River. I went to put in my paperwork this morning at the police dept for Class A LTC. The Man was nice he made me fill out some extra paperwork thats ok. He took my mugshot and my fingerprints. thats ok. It took all of 35min thats ok. Then he said thats it your all set I said thank you for your time. Then as I was leaving he broke out in a speach you do know that it is up to the licenceing officer If you get a class A. Wich I know, he said you will prob end up with a target and hunting permit which he said you can buy any firearm you want[shocked] So did he just tell me in a nice way that I was was not getting a LTC? after I did everything by there book like 3 letters of refrence 1 letter of why I want a LTC Range reciept the works. wow I thought. Now I will just need to wait and see 4-6 weeks from now. any input will be welcome.. thanks

As I said in the other thread, expect to get a LTC-A Restricted: Hunting & Target.

With any luck, we can get Larry in the AG seat and that hunting & target crap can get wipped away and every LTC-A will be an ALP.

But... I wont hold my breath on that...

The pattern I see is the cities with more crime tend to give out the lamest licenses... but... those are the ones where you need it even more. [thinking]

maybe the crooks just know who is armed and who is not... and why fuss with someone that could fight back?

I think that it is actually 40 days. Mine took the full 40 days. (I got a call on the 40th day) My guess is that they work within the law, and to the extent that the law allows them... so I can't complain, but they can keep me on hold as long as they want.

the whole process is lame... If I moved 1 mile down the road to the next town, I'd bet I could get an ALP with no trouble. 1 MILE makes a difference on the license I can get? that is total BS, but thank the liberalcrats for that.

I am guessing

that you mean he is in Westport. Westport is a great rural town that stands up for citizens second amendment rights. I appreciate the work the Chief has done to allow his citizens the ability to defend themselves.

I have my LTC in Westport.

I live In fall [sic] River. The Man was nice he made me fill out some extra paperwork thats [sic] ok.

WHAT "extra paperwork? And I doubt that, despite your constant assurances, "thats ok."

after I did everything by there book like 3 letters of refrence [sic] 1 letter of why I want a LTC Range reciept the works.

Neither the "3 letters of refrence" nor the "Range receipt" are required. Two references; period - no letters. Neither is membership at a range required, per the licensing statute and case law.

Unfortunately... you'd need to convince the Cheif of this...

I can say this though, Scrivener, expect a call of visit from me for some help when I renew in 3 years [smile]

I want my restrictions gone... just hate having to wait 3 more years to do it. [thinking]

Going back a couple posts. I just got my LTC ALP A renewed in Hanson. No extras required, the only thing I filled out was my signature and I had the renewed permit in hand in 3.5 weeks...........

That is so true. When we were looking to buy our home, I talked to the issuing officer of the towns we looked at prior to buying. I felt it was a very important part of my decision making on which house to buy......

I wish it was. I dont even have a record. My 3 letter of refrences would make Charles Manson look A+1

As far as these hacks are concerned (anti PDs/Chiefs) it doesnt matter
what kind of a record you have. You could be a national medal of
honor recipient, and have a nobel prize, and they still would restrict your
license. Basically from the sounds of it you're dealing with a PD, that
if given the choice, would not issue gun licenses at all.

I've also talked to at least two LEOs that have gotten restricted
licenses, although now due to HR218, it really doesn't matter. They were
employed in different towns, than where they lived/applied for the
license, but still the fact that a chief is willing to issue a restricted
license to someone who is sworn law enforcement is rather
disturbing.

The only solutions to anti chiefs right now are-

1. Lawyer up before applying. (sometimes works, sometimes does
not, but if you don't want to move, it's the only choice).

2. Move to a town that doesnt suck and is de-facto A/ALP.

3. Move out of MA (the only true 100% guarantee of freedom).

So

what Is the restricted class A ? Is it just that I will not be able to carry a firearm on my person? Or is there more to it?

I really wish I had seen this board before applying for an LTC. Had I known, I would have done things differently, probably with the advice of a lawyer.

I had two letters of reference, as indicated by my police departments policy. One was from a fighter pilot and businessman who had known me since I was born, the other from a doctor and medical researcher.

They restricted my license to target only. Oh, by the way the fighter pilot, who lives in Brookline, would not be granted an ALP either in his town, or even an LTC-A as far as I could tell, unless he was pals with someone on the police force.

If I had to do it over, I would be armed with a lot more knowledge and moral support.

Brookline is presently fighting an appeal challenging, among its other abuses, the requirement of a "range test" for every application - including renewals.

He took my mugshot and my fingerprints. thats ok.

FYI, that's not something that you should really complain about, the picture and fingerprint are taken as they go onto the card when you receive it, and the fingerprint is put into the MIRCS system to provide positive ID when you make a firearm purchase.

It took me I believe 49 days, supposedly due to a mixup where a bunch of LTCs were not shipped back to Boston on time. Riiight... But the issue date on the card was a mere 3 weeks after my applicatio ndate.

Hate to break the news to you...but the new permit is now 6 years...not four.

And I only waited a few weeks... I think that the whole thing was only 4 or 5 weeks to get my renewal...no questions asked, A-ALP.

But, when we were looking at houses a while back, there were many towns that I told my wife we're not looking at, just because of that.

If I can help it, I'll never leave North until we move out of the state.

dont get me wrong

No, I understand that stuff Its OK. I know there Is a few things that need to be done by the book. Trust me I am not complaining.

Well, you certainly can't go South or West, as Attleboro and Plainville are very anti-gun rights. Wrentham is excellent and Foxboro is also very good.

Plus, you'd be out of Bristol County and, therefore, NOT in Attleboro District Court. [wink]

Mine expires in 2010... I think I was drinking when I said 3 years... ment 4 [wink]

But eitherway.. I will surely go in "Armed" with back up next time.

Anyone else from Brockton that has had similare exp.?

you can reapply at any time, you don't have to wait and shouldn't wait for expiration. But in a city like Brookline or Boston it would be futile.

Although you can re-apply anytime by law, most chiefs won't do it. Been discussed here numerous times and some members have tried and failed.
