For my company, when we shut down key machines, we knew it was a 6 month downtime for removal, moving, setup in new location. So we found a 3rd party that could handle that workload and had contracts in line that basically guaranteed a seamless transition from our shop to theirs. We were also up front to our customers what we were doing and that there may be hiccups in our system, but also explained the benefits of the long term plan to be able to manufacture better, quicker, cheaper products.
