I wasn't aware that they did work for other places. But that doesn't mean it can't be done. Never say never with big (dumb) money.

For my company, when we shut down key machines, we knew it was a 6 month downtime for removal, moving, setup in new location. So we found a 3rd party that could handle that workload and had contracts in line that basically guaranteed a seamless transition from our shop to theirs. We were also up front to our customers what we were doing and that there may be hiccups in our system, but also explained the benefits of the long term plan to be able to manufacture better, quicker, cheaper products.

Plenty of large manufacturing plants move with far bigger equipment including forges and heat treatment. I've personally moved manufacturing equipment 20m x 8m in size.

Manufacturing in MA is pretty much dead, except for maybe a handful of companies and a bunch of small shops, I dont think there are many major manufacturers left.

Springfield is far from everything. Young people don't want to be there, there isn't a big pool of skilled labor for other industries to want to move there, getting to all the major cities and airports s*cks. It is a sh*t location for a city in the 21st century.

So you would think; low skilled labor, cheaper housing, already a company that hires something like 700 people in that world, why not give manufacturing an incentive to come to Springfield, lower wages out west go further.

keep all the high tech, bio tech, finance and education in Boston, manufacturing out west.

Instead, we drive them away. Because f*ck jobs, who needs those and the tax revenue they generate.

Eventually Mass Mutual is going to merge with some other company or leave Springfield and the floundering casino will close. Then the only employers left in Springfield will be the the state subisized medical centers & colleges (also not doing well financially).

Let's face it, the city of Springfield has lost its reasons for existing. Without purpose it will continue to wither and die and the idiot hyenas running the place keep chewing on the bones expecting to find more meat rather while grinding the remains further into dust.

I was born and raised in Chicopee, and worked for many years in Springfield in the 80s. My father used to work at S&W as a contract electrician and used their firing range many times.
I went to Baystate Medical for a job interview a few years ago and was sad to see what a shithole Springfield has become, like most democrat controlled cities.

They are like the prime heat treatment vendor in the entire area. They do work for pratt, sikorski, hamilton, etc.... The injection molding company they own in CT has the same kind of service offering and I believe still does medical injection molding work. Both of those industries are really the only ones still doing meaningful work in new england.
