SPRINGFIELD — Citing the “political climate” related to the gun industry and the willingness of banks, insurers and investors to back it, Smith & Wesson said Wednesday it will split from the outdoor products and accessories businesses of American Outdoor Brands Corp.

 
S&W is a business - they made that point clear long ago. They will sell to jack-booted thugs if that’s where the money goes.
 
The Remington suit might have made them decide this was prudent to limit losses to nuisance lawsuits.

Maybe for any pending litigation, but I do t know how it would help with future suits, especially given the CT case’s recent news, every state is going to enact similar legislation seven ways to Sunday.

Keeps the gear side of the businesses from being liable. Limits losses and suits to the spun off company. Corporations form smaller entities all the time to limit liability.
