Smith Corona 1903A3 questions on dates.

Just a question on the dates? The serial # on the receiver is a 1943 SC make, I’m just curious why the muzzle is 12/42? I know Remington was parting out to get SC going from what I have read. Just wondering why the stamps are there? Thanks for your answers, nothing on googlefu was insightful.

I don't know the answer to your question but that's a real nice looking 1903A3.

Barrels were made prior to the receivers typically so they would be ready to assemble once the receiver was cut.

Is it a 2, 4 or 6 groove barrel? Given the year, I’m guessing a 4 groove?

I believe that is the correct barrel, type 5. See the attached images. That book is an excellent resource. I used it identify all of the parts of my SC 1903A3.

Wow, I might need a copy of that book. While not a ‘collector’ and will never be able to afford to be one, I have 3 different variants. 1903, 1903A1, and 1903A3 (Smith Corona) and I’m sure there’s some great information in there.
