I recently purchased a SW1911PD. I haven't taken possession of it yet due to the backward law in NY that a Judge has to allow me to purchase it and place it on my permit.

My problem is this. I recently have been informed of S&W practice of catering to Anti-gunners politics. I can not find any info on this. Any body know where I can read up on this? I hope what I have heard is wrong, and that I haven't really bought a product from a manufacturer that does not stand up for our rights as Americans.

The main selling point for me on this gun was the warranty, lifetime and fully transferrable. I guess lifetime is not really a good term. I was told that as long as S&W is a company making guns, the gun will be under warranty. Even if I die and pass it down to a son.

I know there a lot of S&W owners on this board and just wondered if any anti-gun politics from a firearms manufacturer here in the US is true.

I was one who boycotted them under their previous management. They cut a deal that was totally anti-gun.

New management has basically scrapped the deal that was made by prior management and they are now considered "in good graces" again.

Don't have cites handy, but a Google search on "S&W sell-out" (or some other permutation) might get plenty of info.

I refused to by S&W back when the Brits owned it, too. They had no respect for our gun rights or any understanding of the gun culture whatsoever. They ruined the company when they owned it.

Now that it's American owned, they again have my full support. They make a quality product. And, it the new owners that approached the current administration saying they would not honor the previous owner's deal with the govt.

Some people still say that S&W is "anti-gun" because they put a lock on their handguns. Well, they were bought by the owner of Safe-T-Hammer, so of course they are going to install one of their company's locks on every hadngun S&W makes! It has nothing to do with politics, it has to do with business, not only for S&W, but Safe-T-Hammer! Blaming the current S&W owners for what the previous owners did is like blaming the current owners of Mauser and Walther for supplying guns to the Nazi's during WWII. Different people, different times, different beliefs.

That is an excellent point. Well put.

Yea, because then all you Dodge and Chrysler drivers would be screwed.

Being that they are in bed with Mercedes.

Shouldn't that be "all us Dodge and Chrysler drivers", Mr. Minivan?

Jay, he forgot to mention Jeep, which are also Mopar. IIRC, he owns, or used to own one of those as well.

I knew that, I just wanted to give him guff about the minivan...

[devil]

(For the record, I don't own an eeeevil Dodge SUV, my family does...)

Why buy the Dodge, when you can get the Jeep and have a REAL transfer case? I've got Select-Trac in mine. 2WD, 4WD and AWD. Your choice.
Ummmm ok, Wanna have a low range tug of war with my Dodge?

Yeah, but my stops at the gas station would only be a good opportunity for me to wait for you to catch up! [smile]

I had a Chevy Pick Up that would pass anything but a gas station. 3/4 ton, 454, 410 rear. Fast in an 1/8th mile. Smoked a LOT of Trans-Ams. I was in El Paso, and Trans-Am's were popular. This would be 77/78.

I find it astounding that the gun makers don't align together and fight the state for trying to put them out of business. When you keep reading headlines about business leaving MA and/or the country (Winchester is the latest to leave US), one can't help but wonder.

Is there a state equivalent to the Chambers of Commerce? If so, they should make it clear that state policies are putting workers out in MA.

Lastly, what companies are currently making guns or gun parts in MA? I'll start:

MA:
S&W [Springfield]
Savage [Westfield]
Kahr (Saeilo) [Worcester]
NEF [Gardner]

NH:
Sig [Exeter?]

CT:
Colt [town?]
Ruger [town?]
Charter [Shelton]

RI:

VT:

ME:

Oh, and where is "gun valley"?

Lost manufacturers:
H&R [Worcester?]
Winchester [city?]
...

Oh, and where is "gun valley"?...

Colt is, of course, in Hartford.
Ruger is in Southport.

Ruger also has a plant in NH; S&W has one in ME. And there is/was an importer in St. Albans, VT.

"Gun Valley" is, of course, the Connecticut River Valley from Springfield on down past Colt, Marlin and Winchester.
