Smith and Wesson M&P

OK in shorthand... This is everything anybody is going to tell you

-ok gun, mass trigger sucks.

-get trigger job ($80 - $120), Great gun.

-10 round mag limit with no way around it.

-Reliable and light reminiscent of Glock but not a knockoff.

That's about it

Correct, LTC class A required.

In order to be Ma compliant the trigger needs to be at least 10 lbs. S&W went a little overboard and turned out at trigger that exceeds even that. All local gunsmiths can do a trigger job. Greg Derr, Dave Santurri and others. Some choose to send their guns to M&P specialists like Dan Burwell but it's not compulsory. Santurri did an awesome job on mine. You can search all this info here on this site and there are endless pages of people writing all this over and over. Good luck

And you can drop in a free-state trigger if you don't want to get a trigger job, IIRC.

I know you have a desire for a 3rd gen Glock, but the M&P 40 has gotten good reviews from everything I've read.

The MA compliant trigger sucks, but once it leaves the dealer you are free to drive down to MarshVegas and drop it off at Derr with three 20's a fin, and a few rounds of ammo for the test shots and you'll get back a gun with a nice trigger job.

Congrats! I have an M&P .45 and I love it. I'm a newbie and I thought a .45 would be hard to shoot, and it really isn't at all. I bought one from a fellow NESer, and the trigger job was already done on it so it is great.

Enjoy and be safe!

how'd you get the m&p45? i thought they weren't "mass legal" yet...?

i have the m&p9, love it! and i got it when s&w was giving away 2 mags AND $50...although...i'm still waiting for the $50 :/

It is not legal for a dealer to sell, but if you can get your hands on one it is not illegal to own.

Well here is my range report.
Shot all at 50 yrds, I did ok at the start all in the black, good groupings.
Then went to my next target and everything was out of the black about a couple inches directly below where I had my sights pointed at. Is this due to the heavy trigger and when I pull it the barrel is dropping down?

Trigger pull is usually up and to the right. Anticipation is down and to the left.

Bought a full sizwe M&P .40 for myself and 9mm compact for the wife

does someone in MA or NH do the trigger work? can someone give me the info??? I use my Glock 23 (which i bought right before i left NV) most of the time which is a dream but i must say i'm VERY happy with the M&P series. My wife loves the 9mm compact for carry... not as hard to manage as a .40 in her small hands

Overall, until i can get another Glock (when i move to NH in a few years) i'm going to keep using the M&P's.

Play between frame and extractor

Does anyone's M&P have some play/movement between the extractor (shiny metallic part right in front-left side of the sear block assembly, (gun pointing away from self)) and the frame? Mine has about 1-2mm of play. Once again, I am refering to the extractor on the FRAME, not the extractor claw on the slide.

Are you referring to the EJECTOR?

I went out to the S/W range while waiting on my out of state LTC to come in. I tried both the MP 40 and 45. I have to say the trigger pull is hell on both of them. But I found the .45 to be slightly more manageable for me, with tighter groups. I was all over the place with the .40, while just a week before I was shooting decent groups with a Glock 23 (3rd Gen).

After all that I went to a Glock 30 SF (.45 ACP for about $550), which I then traded in for the HK 45 (about $950). I love the HK 45, pricey, and not yet legal in Mass, but a terrific gun.

Where could a lowly Ma**h*** get one of these and how much would it cost. If you were to go this route versus a trigger job, how does the stock free state trigger compare to a customized MA trigger? Man, I've got a lot to learn.

A trigger job will cost you a similar amount to buying new parts and installing the stock trigger, and is much nicer.

So far the only handgun I've ever fired is a S&W .40, so I have nothing to compare with, but I have to agree that the trigger pull was just absurd. I did manage to hit the target, but was all over the place and I can't comprehend how it's possible to be accurate with a trigger that heavy.
