Skinning a squirrel

Linke no worke

I got out for a couple of housrs today. I found this guy, he really is faster than a speeding bullet. (At least a .22 anyway) I managed to get four shots off and each one missed by no more than a half inch. - I saw the dirt go flying. Next time I'm bringing the .410 !

It's a good thing I don't have to depend on my hunting skills for food.[thinking]

Does the law about 500 feet from a road or house apply to pellet guns?

I have a TON of squirrels around.

That said, how far off are these from mice in the animal kingdom? What I'm getting at is how safe are they to eat? I don't want some sort of weird sick germs or parasites.

Yes it does (?)- neighbors may be more or less understanding depending on where you live and how close they are.

I'm no expert but as long as the animal appears healthy and is free of parasites it should be ok. I remember, as a kid, being told by an uncle of mine to check a wild rabbit's entrails for white spots while field dressing them. White spots are supposed to be an indicator of tulemaria and if found it should not be eated.

Be careful how you cook 'em as the meat can be tough.

No it does not. It is not a firearm but you are responsible for each and every shot.

Isn't that wonderful??? I have a pellet gun that shoots a .177 pellet 1000 fps- faster than many hand guns rounds... and I can buy one without a license and shoot it in my backyard. But if someone sees the butt of my holstered handgun in public I'm f'ckd! I'm angry today. MA is really annoying me lately.

Yes squirrel is really good. Glenn makes what he calls Ozark Mountain Squirrel. Tomato and onion, can't think of it all. If he has rabbit he will put that in it also.

OK, so we are talking about squirrel hunting, does anyone want
to meet up and go? The season is open west of 495, so it's a bit
of a haul for us Southesterners, but Westboro WMA has some pretty good
spots. I generally like to go on cool to cold days early in the morning,
often before work.

Tree rats aren't that bad. I had it a few times. As long as you don't think about what you're eating, it tastes ok. I just couldn't mentally get over that I was eating and the 'smell' of squirrel lingered on me which I didn't like. Texture is like pork and taste is similar to chicken (what isn't). Stew it up deboned and you wouldn't even know it's squirrel.

Crow and seaducks on the other hand..... yuck. I have a thing about eating what I kill, needless to say I won't shoot at those ever again.

I'm just getting mental images of the show "Survivor" and roatsting the little buggers over a spit... no thanks.

BB guns as well as painball guns are fine to shoot in your yard (as long as you are over 18) and only shoot in your yard.

Be aware that you are responsible for any damage you may do and don't be suprised if you screwed up and put a hole in someones car, window or whatever... that you can still be arrested and may loose your LTC [rolleyes]

Squirrel is safe to eat. Just don't eat the brains. You can get the equivalent of Mad Cow Disease, but squirrel version.[grin]

I'll go!!!! Are you guys still going? I'm dying to take my .22 and try for some!!!!

You do know that squirrels are very close cousins to bunnies right Dave? Bunnies love to climb trees and snuggle with squirrels. And you want to hunt the friends of bunnies? Shocking! Absolutely shocking! [rofl]
