I RECENTLY BOUGHT A RUGER MARK III TARGET PISTOL AND ITS MY FIRST.
IT HAS ADJUSTABLE REAR SIGHTS AND THAT'S WHERE THE PROBLEMS START.
I TOOK IT TO THE RANGE AND I GUESS MY FIRST QUESTION IS, HOW FAR AWAY FROM THE TARGET SHOULD I BE TO START TRYING TO ADJUST THE SIGHTS...IF NEEDED?
5 YARDS, 10 YARDS, 15 YARDS, 20 YARDS ETC.???
I DIDN'T KNOW IF THERE WAS A STANDARD DISTANCE TO SET THESE UP AT.
I'M A BEGINNER HERE AND NOT REALLY READY TO DO ANY COMPETITION SHOOTING, JUST HITTING PLATES ETC.
THANK YOU

Hi There... I assume you're thug's friend posting from his account?

Thug already asked this question (sounds like for you?) in this thread: http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/115838-Sighting-In-New-Pistol?highlight=hanwei

Read that and there will be a bunch of info to help you out.

A good starting distance to zero your sights is 7 yards (If I'm wrong, someone please correct me). If you end up shooting more often at farther distances you can always readily adjust elevation in the rear sight.

If you want help zeroing the pistol... You're welcome to meet me at my club (MRA) in Woburn or (HSC) in Harvard and I'd be glad to help out.

50 ft is normal for this gun, bench it and see what it does, if its hitting
the center, good. then pick it up and shoot it, see where they go and
adjust for the way you shoot.
