Some time ago I purchased a .40 - .357 replacement barrel from Sig Sauer to convert a formerly .40 P229. Happy with the results I recommended this to a friend who, after shooting mine, decided to do the same. However, being wiser and more frugal than I, he said to me, "Is there quantifiable value in the Sig Brand Barrel which retails for $203 from Sig vs, say, the Storm Lake barrel which can be had at Brownells for $169 or even $137 with the C&R discount?"

"Hmmm..."I said. Resisting the urge to pretend I knew the answer.

Not knowing a whole lot about the manufacturing process, I wonder, is this really a get-what-you-pay for situation as with, say, magazine quality. Or is it more like selecting an AR Lower where, as long as you're purchasing quality, one is basically the same as the other?
