Gonna direct this one back to the original set of questions.
Outside of hunting I’d rather be equipped with a rifle than a shotgun for any defensive long gun task. You may feel differently but that’s the conclusion I’ve come to after my studies at Internet University.
I don’t usually just shoot my shotgun at targets on a static range. Slugs aren’t much fun after the second round and bird/buck just destroys my target.
When my shotgun comes to the range is for skeet, or to pattern it for whatever season needs it. A box of slugs gets me barely ready for deer season.
For me shotguns are closer to tools than range toys.
